Finally someone simplifies it and properly explain off spin in a video

I often wonder how offspinners choose to become offspinners and how legspinners choose to be legspinners? I grew up with offspin, and a shoulder injury in my early 20s forced me into legspin. I love them both.

The short stride is very important. And something that anyone coming from seam bowling to off-spin is likely to get wrong.
With seam you bowl through your chest. Using your chest musculature like the string on a bow. Feeling the pull through your chest. Leading with your none bowling arm, strongly pulling down and into your hip
Trying to bowl off-spin with this action is unlikely to lead to good results.
You need to wait a fraction longer on your back foot while you bowling arm rotates - so that your bowling shoulder is AHEAD of your neck.
If you bowl with a long stride you will likely "bowl behind your hips" Your upper half of your body is likely to be behind your legs and you'll bowl from behind your centre of balance. It'll be hard to get control, hard to have your wrist in the right position and almost impossible to impart as much spin as you should if you have too long a stride.
This idea of getting your bowling arm / shoulder forward early means some offspinners adopt very odd quirks with their none bowling arm. Like Ashwin, Narine and Mitchell Santner. Have a look at their none bowling arm. They tuck it, wave it, even put it behind their back. This is to ensure their bowling shoulder is ahead just before the point of release when you flick your wrist to impart maximum spin.
2 other things.
1) Not getting your bowling shoulder forward you may be able to put revs on the ball, but the chances are the seam will be canted the wrong way. You might end up putting back spin on it, or having the seam rotating towards mid off rather than leg slip (assuming RH bat, RH bowler). These might be decent variations, to get the ball to drift and hop, but you wont get much lateral movement.
2) Turning a door knob isn't a very good analogy. If you watch spinners who rip the ball they cock their wrist back and flick it forward fast and hard. You need s strong wrist. Moeen Ali (not the worlds best spinner, but a good example because his action is clearly visible in replays) Rips his wrist forward, almost like someone throwing a dart. Gets the most revs on the ball possible. No-one opens a door like that. If you think of opening a door knob you'll put about 3 revs a month on the ball. Think about ripping the seam off it with the tip of your index finger.. Flicking it so hard that a new ball's seam will cut into your skin (and it will until you develop callouses) I've never seen anyone open a door like that.
Flick it, rip it and spin it.

Great work Bobby. I don't think it's a necessity to walk/run towards your target but always good for youngsters to start of this way. Love the arm ball. ❤️

Though i love off spin. I get a feeling like offspin will be out of the game. It will survive in test. Already limited over teams are filled by leggies you cannot see one offie in any playing 11
