In this Shine On You Crazy Diamond guitar lesson video series, I will show you note-for-note how to play parts 1-5 of this Pink floyd classic.

Parts 1-5 open the Wish You Were Here album and for most of the later Pink Floyd tours, it is this portion of the song that is usually played live to open the shows. For that reason I will just focus on part the more well known parts 1-5.

At over 13 minutes long this will be quite the epic lesson series. In fact, I have broken this lesson series up into 4 separate video lessons to make everything a bit easier to learn. I will note though, that the video lessons are numbered parts 1, 2, 3 and 4, but they don't have anything in common with those specific sections of the song. The video lessons are simply divided into what I thought was a good stopping point for each video in order to make them more easy to follow.

The guitar solos throughout this marathon track are some of David Gilmour's finest work and I hope you enjoy learning these beautiful solos note-for-note.

In the first video lesson, I will show you the opening guitar solo which is absolutely gorgeous over the synthesizer pad. This solo contains a lot of pre-bends that David Gilmour masterfully keeps in tune. It is quite the challenge no matter what level player you are, especially if you add vibrato to the bends. After that comes the main riff of the song that builds up to the full band entering.

In the second video lesson, I will cover David Gilmour's second solo note-for-note. Just like the opening solo, David Gilmour creates a melodic solo using techniques that seem easy but are very difficult to master. After the solo section, I will then show you the guitar parts being played under the synth solo.

The third video lesson will be dedicated exclusively to David Gimour's third guitar solo. This solo has a little bit more gain to it since the dynamics of the song have been slowly building up to this point. Because of that, this solo sounds a little bit more aggressive than the first two.

The last video will finally cover the verse sections, the interlude and the cool arpeggio patterns that occur underneath the sax solo before everything fades out.

There are countless cool guitar technique in this Shine On You Crazy Diamond guitar lesson series, so I hope you guys enjoy tackling all of them with me! :) #shineonyoucrazydiamondguitarlesson #pinkfloyd #guitarcovers

I have to say, out of all the guitar teachers on youtube you have to be my favourite. Always concise and to my knowledge, one of the most accurate. I also really enjoy how you show what the musicians do in live recordings. Cheers

You're lessons are absolutely fantastic. I usually just watch lessons for licks and technique, I'll never play this song front to back, but still will watch more than once and appreciate the terrific instruction.

Loved the lesson! This proves how cool Dave Gilmour is. You don’t need to be a shredder and death metal player or whatever to be good (like how loads of people are obsessed with shredding). All you need to have is soul to wow the crowd.

Just brilliant! And you make the lesson so easy to understand without any complex descriptions about strange chord or note names.

These are really good lessons. Though I am a beginner at guitar (and am ignoring the opening solo for the moment for that reason), I design speakers for a living, so can't be said to be a beginner at music. What sets this apart is that these lessons actually sound like the original music - which I tend to know by heart. It makes life so much easier when what you are being taught lines up with what you know, and then you just have to produce that yourself. And this also goes for all the little inflections and nuances that you know are there, which aren't scooted over or missed, and that adds up to a much more 'musical' result - which also keeps you on the right lines.
