So you want to build a #homelab? In this video we'll give you some ideas around what tech you may need to build your first proper #homelab for under $500.
To get the best #homelab for this price you may want to opt for buying some second hand tech, as you'll be able to do more. The more tech you have, the more things you can build..
We'll cover what computers you could buy, a suitable networking setup, along with housing all your tech within a Server Rack or Cabinet.
Just remember that this is the only the start of your learning, next start building your different servers. If you want more storage, a NAS may be the next step!

For those who don’t want to spend a lot of money —spin up a server in the cloud for pennies

Terrible video. Sorry the "hate", but this is the worst advice i have seen. Anybody can start a homelab and learn with 0€.... The PC they are using to see this bad advice can be a homelab with docker (windows/mac/linux), if the PC is not fisable, Oracle Free Tier, a VPS with 24Gb RAM (as you mention is the most important thing). A MiniPC, Old PC, Laptop and Raspberry Pi are indeed great options, but to tell your audience to buy a raspberry pi now (they cost more than 100€, sometimes even used ones) that's not great advice.

And then tell them to buy a full rack for that miniPC our one PC?!?!? Man, you could pick a miniPC, put it in someplace and naver look at it for years and will work great.

This video had no substance, your advices are to buy products and never show what people can do with the 10 PCs in the junk rack server.

You didn't mention a NAS, any services (like: Plex, Code Server, Host Sites, etc...). You only speak in VMs, how many VMs does a person need? hahahah

I expect a follow-up video with what can the 10 junk PCs that one guy buy in the facebook marketplace really do.

for a hypervisor i’d recommend an open source platform like proxmox because of its very active community. it’s just debian linux and it’s very easy to seek niche resources online compared to esxi in my opinion.
