Here's my original video game composition Shimmering Motion! I'm Sab and I love saxophone and video games, so now I make covers that combine two of my favorite things!

It's been a bit! My goal every month is to try and write something working on a skill I feel needs improvement in my composition work. It's a nice way to keep learning and experimenting with new sounds and styles!

My goal with this tune was to play with an ostinato again, but also playing with a chord progression I really liked! I recently watched Dr. Stone, and loved it! The third opening's chord progression stuck out to me and I wanted to play around with it myself and see what I could do with it.

I recently started messing with chiptune sounds and thought this was a great way to put it into practice!

I definitely wanted to do jazz fusion with a chiptune lead, kinda reminiscent of Steven Universe in a way! I really struggled with writing a melody for this one, and sent what I had to my friend ThunderScott and he came up with the first chiptune melody you hear in the piece! A huge thanks to him for helping me out!

I didn't have a specific context in mind in terms of the setting of the piece, so I'm interested to know what you all heard! Let me know in the comments!

Around 2:30 I couldn't help but think of Diamond and Pearl lake theme so this all felt like exploring the area around a lake

God damn, this is fantastic. Starting off by outlining the chord sequence with a rising ostinato, subtly descending in sequence with the chords, works really well to introduce the key and set the piece in motion with an energetic harmony, ending the sequence with some ascending chordal movement to maintain a kind of determined energy, by juxtaposing the previously established pattern, and building momentum with the gradual layering of texture, with each new instrument. The ascending piano motif is tastefully brought back in throughout, in different octaves, punctuating and providing stylistic and sonorous contrast to the fantastic chiptune solo, which manages to build its ideas upon it and represent your distinctive melodic style in its conjunct and chromatic movement and characteristic licks. A compelling modulation in the middle 8 (?) serves to create harmonic and tonal contrast with striking chromatic harmonic movement, before returning to the chiptune solo and bringing the piece to a close with development of the piano ostinato, extending it and covering more harmonic range, flowing smoothly to a tantalising conclusion that hints at potential continuation. In the score if a game, this piece would represent the protagonist's first venture into the unknown, outside of their previously established world: determined, as this is their choice, and it has taken great courage to reach this point, but also mysterious and brooding, representing the dangers and great challenges that lie in this unfamiliar land, all the while maintaining this shimmering motion. This is really fantastic, you are a very good composer, who evidently puts a lot of thought into every choice made in the creation of your music, and who has a clear passion for this creative expression. Your work is inspiring.

I can see myself walking around to this on a stressless day. Did you have a specific idea of what it could be in a game? This calls for an area theme, and it may just be the visual effect but a snowy place seems to fit?

Damn that's really cool. Just the contrast between very arcady 8-bit synth and a hi-fi piano sounds a bit funny to me.
