Nissan QG18DE piston slap

If your motor is making bad sounds ,it will be the pistons, not happy!

Hey there

I have one of these engines in my Nissan Primera and it's only done 138000km and its piston slapped from pretty much new bought it at 85000km and its only just started to get A little worse now. A trusted Nissan Mechanic I work with said these engines are like this from factory, and the problem gets worse with age, and they start using oil like this one has.

They use a qg16de block with 1800cc pistons, to give the motor more torque. But consequences are slack tolerances.
Interesting stuff really.

Boosted 1 of these QG18 engine 7psi no tune stock internals and she still lives .. no piston slap etc..

I just bought one of these, second hand at 260000 kms. Changed the oil and now it slaps and goes through about a liter of oil with every 50 kms. P420 catalyst and oxygen light just came up. What a fucking shit built engine. Why do people sell cars they KNOW are bad? Just to make it someone else's problem? That makes them a shitty person.

If I do change the engine, I'll definitely go for another one that isn't prone to break from the factory.

Wish I found this before I just bought one. sigh. Mines done 100, 000kms and using about 500ml of oil every 500kms. Piston 1 and 4 look oily through the spark plug hole, but 2 and 3 look dry. Dont know if I should bore and put in new pistons and rings or what. Such a shame because the body and interior is great and has a sunroof. Just the shit motor!

maybe you should have maintained it better and done regular oil changes.
