Thanks for reminding us that plastics are truly hidden everywhere!

Saw this awhile back but they did the whole can. Half the can makes it look way more interesting to see both aspects of the can at once

Glass is the last authentic form of drink storage

This reminded me of the scene in Breaking Bad when Jesse assumes the acid he wants to use to dissolve a body can be put in a bathtub rather than the plastic tub Walter told him to use.

I did know this. Most sodas are fairly acidic (pH of 2.3 to 2.9 or so for Coca-Cola) because of the phosphoric acid in them. If the can didn't have the liner, the soda would eat right through the metal. Another interesting fact: During the bottling process [i.e.-cans in this case] they have to remove any dissolved oxygen in the water. If they didn't, the D.O. would react with the plastic liner and cause it to degrade, then the soda would make contact with the aluminum and cause a packaging failure. Source: I used to work in the QC department at a Coca-Cola bottling plant. ;o)

Yep, and in canned food tins also. It's so the acidity of the product doesn't react with the metal.

This is so cool. I remember buying sodas in glass bottles. The soda tasted a lot better.

This makes Homer’s joke about “Voting for Prell to go back to the old glass bottle” relevant again lol.

I love the slightly panicked but mostly excited sprint to see the results.

Thats good for a reason

But this is also bad obviously

Mind. BLOWN. I'm really bummed I didn't have teachers like this in high school. I would have loved science SO much more and gotten better grades.

Nice reminder that micro plastics are inescapable

I wish everything was still glass bottles they genuinely taste better in them and there's no plastic.

Reading the comments, if this is to stop the soda from degrading the aluminium... why use aluminium in the first place when we also have full-plastic soda containers? Wouldn't full-plastic be easier?

This video made me ask why chemistry teachers didn’t have this guy doing cool tricks that’s educational for the whole class.
