I saw it. There was not a single moment where ANY character utters the word or insinuates any transness.
Literally, there's just a Barbie being played by a trans woman. So a Barbie being played by a woman, like all the other Barbies.
A doll is being played by a ✨doll✨💅

It's wild that people are so pressed over a single trans actress as a Barbie. Like it isn't even a big deal, she just.. exists. And one of the reason we ARE hyped over her is because it's rare to see any trans/lgbtq representation in general, which is sad and I'd love to see more rep for us. On topic of Barbie though, when I was little my parents hadn't got me a Ken doll so I just made all my barbies lesbian lmao.

Ben being upset there isnt some random scene where Hari Nef is called "Trans barbie" is so very weird. He's just upset there isnt a specific scene that he can complain about clearly but to say "she has a deeper voice than me" first of all Benji my 11 year old cis niece has a deeper voice than you, a puppy doing its first howl has a deeper voice than you. Timmy Turner, voiced by iconic female voice actor Tara Strong, has a deeper voice than you. You simply cannot hold yourself up as a beacon of masculinity and still be Ben Shapiro hunny

the fact they said this was losing them money but this movie had the biggest opening weekend of any female directed film... ever 😂

The movie literally addresses the "genitals issue" in the movie. Barbie straight up says, "I don't have a vagina! And he doesn't have a penis." (Ken's response is gold). No genitals should mean there's nothing for transphobes to get offended at, right?

Right?

I didnt even know there was a trans actress in the movie! Its awesome to see a trans woman get a role that doesnt revolve around her trans-ness or have a tragic ending. Just a regular role because trans women are regular women

The conversation about hiring trans actors for everyday typical roles is so important. Most of us have the goal of integrating into society, not being known for being trans, so it actually does a lot more to make trans people seem normal and relatable by not forcing their stories to be entirely trans-centric

Having watched the Barbie movie, I literally had no idea there was a trans actress in the film! Literally other than Margot and Ryan I only recognized Issa Rae from all the Barbies and Kens, lol. Everyone did such a fantastic job in their roles.

It’s really lovely to see a movie in 2023 where a trans woman is just seen as beautiful in her existence.

As a straight cis guy, this movie was just so much fun. Great performances, fantastic production design, awesome songs and a genuinely good message.

On the subject of LGBTQ+-supportive churches, I remember as far back as the 00s our local pride festival usually had three or four churches of different denominatons giving out buttons and stuff that said "Gay by God" or "God loves you the way you are, " things like that. There's also a local church that's been hosting our city's LGBTQ+ youth group since the group's inception over 30 years ago. I'm personally not religious but it was always comforting to know that there were Christians out there that actually LISTENED when they heard "love thy neighbor."

I am a 76-year-old cis male and I just saw Barbie and I actually loved it. You have to see it as soon as you can. Ther was a mother, father, and a daughter about 5-7 sitting in front of me and it seemed to me they all loved it. SPOILER ALERT! To me the funniest scenes were at the end where the main Barbie decided to remain in the human world, and she is dropped off at an office when upon entering she says she's there for a gynecological exam (much earlier she and Ken said they have no vagina or penis).

When I was a kid I wanted a Barbie, but I asked for a Scuba Ken cuz I thought they'd take it better. My mom got me the doll.

Then the year I moved to live with my older sister (coincidentally, her nickname is Barbie), my mom had been living there as well, and I told her the story and she got me the holiday Barbie for that year. I cried, I finally got the Barbie I always wanted.

I desperately want to get a doll of Hari Nef as Barbie for my wife. She wasn't allowed to play with dolls as a kid because she's AMAB, and we were both living for Hari in the movie. Come on, Mattel!

when I saw the barbie movie, I didn’t like it as much as other people because I thought its flavor of feminism was too corporate and in-your-face. But the fact that conservatives are getting pissed off at a feminist message -that- watered down is hilarious. Plus there were things about the movie I did like, from the sets to the more subtle scenes to a trans actress getting to play a barbie! whether the actual character is trans or not, I think she makes a cool addition to the diversity of barbieland, showing that some barbies can have deeper voices, much like how other barbies are missing limbs or are plus-sized.
also idk abt y’all but I’d like to imagine alan as nonbinary because he doesn’t fit into the categories of barbie OR ken, he kind of does his own thing (though his presence in the story does ring true to how nb folks are often sidelined)

I went to the barbie movie on the first screening in Australia and there was barely any kids in the theatre, there was like a small group of girls having like a birthday party there but it was mostly filled with middle aged women, young adults and teens, I didn't even realise that one of the barbies were trans cause that wasn't part of her character

I was so scared this movie was going to suck. But it was perfect, two hours just flew by and I was so into it. I haven't laughed this hard at a movie since I was a kid. This movie is brilliant and everyone should watch it. Samantha, you have to make a follow up after you watch it! Please!

I mean....she wasn't trans Barbie, she was Dr Barbie and I'm sure the majority of the audience had no idea ( I certainly didn't until DW made a song and dance about it )

You heard about the trans man who was in the new evil dead rise movie that came out this year? Like I am here for it. His character had nothing to do with trans people I LOVE IT I LOVE THE REPRESENTATION!
