You can change a setting on your Nintendo Switch to gain a faster download speed than usual. Changing the MTU (maximum transfer unit) from 1400 to 1500, you may not notice it on smaller downloads, but larger downloads will be faster than usual.

Hope this explanation helps a bit more: What is an MTU: MTU or Maximum Transfer unit, is the largest size packet that can be delivered in bytes without fragmentation. The largest size allowed over Ethernet and most of internet service providers is 1500 bytes. This means the maximum size a data packet can transmit is 1500 bytes.

Great tip for speeding up downloads on your Switch System! The only downside being that if you are using a public network while other devices are using it, it will slow down all of those devices connection. MTU is basically the point of how much capacity your using of your Internet connection. Great tip, but be careful and pay attention to what limit your internets connection capacity is before following the videos instructions so you don't accidentally crash your Wi-Fi.

If you are hardwired (Ethernet) reserve the highest MTU Value to about 1472.

Your Ethernet delivery method has what’s known as Header Information. If you put it to 1500 MTU, you WILL get bloated packets and slower speeds BECAUSE you aren’t letting that Header Information through, and causing your packets to fragment.

If you’re still unsure, ask Google to tell you how to calculate the right MTU Value for you, using Command Prompt.

MTU basically changes the maximum amount of data that can be downloaded in chunks. A small game won’t even fill a cluster (1500) so it won’t make a difference but bigger games will download in multiple chunks that make it faster.

Ah, this was a trick for PS4 a long time ago to get a 1-player public lobby in GTA V so that you could do heist setup missions and stuff without being griefed. But in that case you'd set the number lower so that the connection was fast enough to allow you to be online, but slow enough to not let you play with others. I think it still works actually.
