I’ve been using this technique to make clear is for over a year. I’m not as patient as you. And after some trial and error I’ve come up with some tips that I use to process the block. After I remove the cooler from the freezer I place it upside down on a cutting board in the sink. I run hot water from the faucet on the cooler this helps the block come out. I’ve tried a bunch of different serrated edge knifes and saws they take a lot of work and don’t always make a clean cut. I found my powered osculating saw makes short work of cutting the block down. I have a blade just for ice. Oven gloves keep protects your hands from the cold and helps hold the ice block while cutting. . Rubbing the cubes on the bottom of a flat stainless steal pan will but a nice finish on them.
