You might want to buy large-eyed blunt-end needles. They're designed for embroidery, tapestry, crochet and knitting. Some are plastic, some are metal, but they're perfect for this method of beading hair.
A pincushion is designed for holding needles (and pins) while in the middle of a job. You can also buy (or make) a needle book to store your needles. Since you're using blunt needles, you could simply store your needles in one of your bead organisers. (For sharps, I always recommend using something like a needle book.)

This was absolutely amazing.
