Wow this is a great video... it is sad you have so little views in comparison to how high your quality is. I just started out my journey to create games and am a total beginner but this definitely helped. I have no plan of coding and it is really intimidating. Especially when you hear that there are ppl who think dnd isn't "real developing" but this helps a lot so thank you :)
I hope i might find a teacher like you did some day :D

In my opinion, visual scripting is coding, you still need to have a programmer mindset to understand what you are doing. The game won't magically work by just dragging and dropping things around, you must know how to use the syntax correctly and what each block is supposed to do. What I love about visual scripting in GM2 is that you can preview the code and learn from it, too. So I would say that for all the basic stuff to be accomplished, visual scripting is great for that purpose and it can be complemented with coding when you meet some restrictions that visual can't solve.

I messed around with music engines with my computer, eventually decided, "Hey, I really like boss fights, I should try making a boss theme." A few days later, I finished making my first boss theme. Now, this is my opinion, but I don't think the song is good, at least as a boss theme. Maybe for an area or something. But this got me thinking. Hey, maybe I should make a game with this.
I searched around, eventually finding rpg maker. Picked up the free trial, and tried it out. It was great, but restricting. I couldn't make my vision in it. So I searched some more, and found Gamemaker Studio 2. I saw Dnd, and thought, hey, this looks easy to use. It was, and I watched some tutorials so I could understand it a little more. I got basic movement down, and tilesets.
But, surprise surprise, I ran into the exact same problem. Restricting. So, it was time to start learning Gml. I could see some similarities between Dnd and Gml. This helped a little bit. Looked at some more tutorials, such as movement. I already some sprites, music, and the entire story of my rpg made. I still didn't know enough of the language for what I am trying to build, so,
you guessed it, more tutorials. I tried making the astroids clone. Made it, it played nicely. I had some friends and family play, they said it was good. After that, I knew some more code. I am still learning, and still making the game. My takeaway is that starting out with Dnd is good for learning before you eventually switch to Gml. Somewhat related, but I want my game to have the same mechanics as Mother 3, without a few things, such as the rhythm battle stuff, or rolling hp.
