🌸 Cherry Blossom Watercolor Painting Tutorial

Today I'm so excited to share this Cherry Blossom Watercolor Painting Tutorial with you! We're starting by painting the sakura flower branch and then I'll show you how to create this dark dramatic background by going around the painted areas. :)

♦ Winsor & Newton Cold Pressed 300 gsm Watercolor Paper Pad:

♦ Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolour 24 Half-Pan Complete Travel set (couldn't find this from Amazon at the moment):

- Payne's Gray
- Alizarin Crimson
- Permanent Rose
- Winsor Orange
- Indanthrene Blue
- Ivory Black
- Burnt Umber

♦ Watercolor brushes (couldn't find the exact ones online but they are nothing special nor expensive): Round brushes: Artetje 620 Camlon Pro in the size 8, 4, 3/0

♦ *Holbein Artists Gouache Permanent White (these are really expensive outside Japan, so I would also check out the Winsor&Newton gouache if you're looking for other high-quality options):

I don't know why but I just love those Sakura flowers so much, maybe because I love what they add to landscapes in Japan especially ? Haha ☺️

I think when I'll try this tutorial I'll make the background light-green with abit of blue on top and some yellow-hidden touches, I think it can bring a very springy zen vibe haha Even thought I really like your version ! I have myself on my screen-phone a dark background with sakura's 🙈 dark blue goes very well with those flowers ☺️ I think you did an amazing job !

Thanks for another great demo Anna. So I painted this last week - the colours worked well although all the water I used for the background made my card quite stiff - I should have predicted that! I might still send it anyway😊.

Fantastic painting! It's so hard to paint the background after you've painted the main subject and you make it look easy! I always struggle with keeping the paper wet enough and avoiding hard edges. Love watching you paint, bravo!
