Is that first graph cumulative in that where x=5, f(x) = P(surviving up to five years) ? Otherwise the graph shape is confusing.

When you say affects the quality if life, im don't quite understand. Could you please provide an example. Would it be where because they've taken this medication they cant do certain activities? Or have to take multiple injections a day? I would appreciate your take on this
