My heart dropped so much at the beginning, Pre release is my favorite magic time. You got me good.

I read the title and thought "How could he possibly dislike these changes? These are everything he's been asking for"

You really had me in the first two minutes

Already said this on Vince’s video, but as a primarily digital player, I am 1000% happy with this. I don’t feel left out in any way. Also, so excited for the Kickstarter!

Eleven minutes of unabashed positivity, about anything, you have no idea how much I needed that Brian.
Thank you.

I remember the joyous days of midnight pre-releases. The very first minute that people in a region were allowed to touch those cards?

It was an amazing shared experience.

I love this move. As someone who regularly plays Arena early, I've seen some frustration in the faces of opponents when I already know the cards. Even though I'm obviously more franchised in this case, it seems like it undermines what prereleases are supposed to be about where we're all playing for the first time.

Digital only player here - I don’t think I’m missing out in any way not getting these cards a week early. I’ve always thought it was weird that they did a full release “early” digitally. I hope to attend a pre-release in person some day and I think it would be more fun if I haven’t played with the cards before.

I play Arena.. quite a bit actually. Usually I took a break during Arena launch week and wouldnt play until physical was released and I went to my local shop and bought some product. I see this as a positive overall. Ok digital has to wait a week, thats fine. If they all syncd up i think a lot of people would like that but to put more emphasis on physical product is a good thing. Local shops have struggled some more than others and this is a chance for them to get more in store traffic and I cannot see it worth complaining. The wait is reversed and while I cant speak for everyone Im fine with it. I love looking at physical product more than digital 🤷‍♂️

This is going to be the grandkid's first pre-release, he's been playing for about a year in a school program and there last birthday just not to long ago we got him a chaos draft I put together and made there own 40 count deck and went up against the house champion (there grandmother) and wow in a vary close game.

I am so glad to hear this news. I purposely don't play Arena until I play in the paper pre-release because I don't want to spoil the surprise. That said, it's also frustrating to play against people who have already played the set several times :(
This is great news

Thanks, Prof, as a FLGS staffer we've been trying to figure out how to get the old enthusiasm back. We keep hearing from players that they are already drafted out by the time it hits the shop. Our regular prereleases have done well enough, but drafts on release weekend are pretty much done. By then the players have been drafting for almost two weeks on arena. I hope this "change" changes this.

One of my favourite things to do when a new sets launches is buying a Booster Box, having friends over playing Sealed. It's a magical experience.

I've also been a Digital-Only player since COVID and I'm having a hard time going back to in-person events due to an anxiety disorder and I think this is a great idea.

I’ve kinda felt the magic of (pun intended) pre release has diminished in the past few years. I’m glad this change is being made.

I think maybe once a year or one every two years they should do a set with no spoiler season. Doesn’t have to be a standard set, make it like conspiracy. But no spoiler season. We don’t know what’s in the packs until we show up to our LGS and open them.

EDIT: people like this idea. Let me amend by saying it should be a full reprint set.

I also have another idea for a supplemental product. Maybe once every two or three years, put every card that didn’t work in a standard set in a supplemental product. Show me the weird bizarre designs that just didn’t work for whatever reason. The mechanics don’t have to make sense. It would be kind of like mystery boosters.

I started watching this and I was thinking in my head, “is this it? Is magic dead?!” I love what you do for the community prof.

Arena only player here: Very happy for yall. I grew up waiting for movies to play on TV and then recording them on video cassette while pausing during commercials, I can wait an extra week.

When I got back into Magic for AFR, I convinced my sister to give the game a shot as well. She is a huge D&D fan and the AFR set was the perfect crossover to get her interested in Magic. Since AFR, we've done something similar to you Prof, and picked up a prerelease kit each from every set. It's been great fun! I definitely approve of this change by WotC, even if I haven't done any in-store prereleases yet, we've still been going in-store to pick up our kits for at-home play. I love the format of sealed and building decks of cards from a limited pool.

As a paper only player I love pre release. I miss the old days of not even having spoilers before the set at being excited to see what cards were even in the set.

I think WOTC saw how well Flesh and Blood is doing and wanted to emulate them by going back to their roots somewhat.
I like this change, but WOTC has a lot more to change before I go back to playing MTG.

Also, I REALLY need a new deck box. I can't wait to see the professor's design!
I'm going to be opening more boxes of FAB in the future so I will need something amazing to protect my new cards!

It's such a good change!! It makes me even more excited to play this next prerelease! (Though I'm not letting myself get too excited until next month when I've considered myself to have enjoyed Neon Dynasty thoroughly ❤️)
