United Nations Security Council members met for an emergency session on Friday to discuss Russia's attack on Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
Members called on Russia to withdraw its troops from the plant to permit medical treatment for injured staff.
U.S. representative Linda Thomas-Greenfield said “Russia's attack last night put Europe's largest nuclear power at grave risk. It was incredibly reckless and dangerous, and it threatened the security and safety of civilians across Russia, Ukraine and Europe.”
The director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Mariano Grossi participated in the meeting.
He said the agency has confirmed no safety or security systems at the plant have been compromised, and that radiation levels are within normal.
Russian envoy Vasily Nebenzya denied the Ukrainian allegations and said it’s part of a "campaign of lies and disinformation" against Russia.
Members called on Russia to pull its troops back and end its aggression on Ukrainian territory.
