Her parents must be absolutely and incredibly proud. The idea that she’s chosen this topic and the preamble to the short film, in itself, tells us about herself beyond and intently separate from the unique experiences she lived through a lot of her formative years with her parents. It speaks to the independence of mind—probably instilled in her from her parents—and emotional strength in the face of the various stressors and turmoil that she also was surrounded by in those years. You can’t come untouched from something like that. Kudos to Malia Ann!
