Yes, you will see a lot of similarities between Uruguayan food & Argentine food, but they do do things just a bit different in Uruguay... And Chivito is something really Uruguayan and tasty (though there is a tasty steak sandwich in Argentina too).

Have you ever had what is called a "Chajá desert" or "Postre Chajá"? I grew up in Paysandú. So tasty. Also, I would recommend a "Choripán". It's a sausage in a small French roll with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, mustard, peppers. I had them with Italian dressing. Omg!

This looks amazing. Great video as always. South and Central America is a dream destination of mine and I really want to study abroad there. The food looks amazing, the buildings are beautiful, and the people seem wonderful.

About the "alfajores": if you want more "dulce de leche" than cookie, look for the "Bocadito" - it's a cookie with lots of dulce de leche covered in chocolate.

As a meat eater I love this kind of food. I'm much more familiar with Argentine and Brazilian food, although I do have a friend here in L.A. who grew up in Uruguay and he makes some wonderful stuff when he has dinner parties, including the best chimichurri I've ever had. I've never been to South American, but it's on my list. Great video, as always.

Excellent video Mark. Your recommendations are on point. I would add to your recommendations the “medilunas” which are usually sweet croissants (sometimes savory) and they go great with dulce de leche. You were right about the mate. The first time I visited Uruguay it seemed almost everyone on the street carried a thermos and a mate. Uruguay is a great place to visit and Uruguayans are very cordial.
