There is no need for this war. Both consoles have a special place in my heart.

I had both consoles and have no bias, but how can you summarise PS software without mentioning Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Wipeout, Metal Gear, Tekken & Final Fantasy? Crazy!! Plus my all time favourite racing series Ridge Racer!

Ben, I'm a ham radio operator, and a very small group of us use that ancient tv system that you were talking about, we call it NBTV Narrow Band Television. You can find a lot of software online to encode video into NBTV format. Maybe you can try to build the mechanical part of the tv and then connect it to a computer (Raspberry Pi) that receive the NBTV from a FM radio, like a PMR446 walkie-talkie, another walkie-talkie transmit the NBTV video encoded from a computer far away. So you can view video via radiowaves like if we were in '20. I would love it. Sorry for bad english. 73(Goodbye) from Italy!

The "original" PS1 you refer to with the parallel port actually was the second model. Additionally, the very first model of PS1 also had standard yellow-white-red AV jacks and RFU power jack in addition to the AV Multi Out port.

1:25 "One more connector"
Well, it had composite out RCA jacks in the first iteration too.

Hi Ben,
How would you go for backwards (or forwards) engineering a retro console with current technology but still keeping the cartridge slot? For example: Rebuilding a PS1 or N64 with something like a current intel/amd CPU, HDMI output/Video Cards and DDR Ram etc. Would an idea like that be possible or do the games only run on certain architecture? Many thanks and keep up the great work.
Shane.

Another great PS1 game is Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Although I prefer the Dreamcast version. It just looked and sounded better.

If I remember the GPU of the N64 was designed, or designed with Silicon Graphics Inc. This company pioneered early 3D for movies and simulators.

Fun fact, ps1 is still being use today as a high end cd player by a lot of enthusiast, you can see tons of ps1 mod to make it a cd music player.

No FF7 or Metal Gear? wtf. those were the best games for the PS1.

Syphon Filter, Metal Gear Solid, Need for Speed III, Resident Evil and Medal of Honor are the PS1 titles that I played over and over and still gladly go back at them now. I didn't have an N64 and none of my friends had one either.

The pure volume of the PS library really made this a non contest. Except for a couple dozen AAA titles, the Playstation lineup just trounced the N64s. Nintendos first party titles are the primary reason anyone would opt for it over the PS.
