That wasn't fully it.
It's dangerous when you've made the face cuts and during the back cut the tree starts falling but the middle bit that you haven't cut yet remains standing and the tree pivots much higher.
The barber chair is mitigated by the bore cut to setup the hinge, after the face cut and before the back cut.

When you cut a five foot diameter leaner and it explodes back, you better be doing your back cut off to the side so it doesn't kill you.

I have seen pine barberchair real high and fast. Usually because they are leaning too much and the cutter can't cut fast enough before it begins to split. Very dangerous indeed.

I had a tree fall on it's own, over our road. It simply uprooted, but the compression roots never gave, so there was enormous energy in the bend. Like the BC, except the full width of the tree. But it crossed the road and then hung up on the trees on the far side. So there was an induced S bend in the tree, and the neutral part was well above the ground... somewhere...

I cut a slip joint/tenon in the base, so that it was severed, but still retaining the loads. Then we pulled it off the stump. That was a whole problem since we didn't actually have anything powerful enough to pull it...

Seems like a chain and binder could be added one to two feet above the cut for safety to avoid this situation, any thoughts?
