In this video we talk about the number one thing we are asked about in the RV park: AirSkirts! We go over everything you need to know if you are thinking about purchasing them. We say what we like and don’t like about the system, and we give a few installation tips for those of you who decide that the AirSkirts are right for you.
We chose the Extra-Large kit for High clearance because we have a 45’ fifth wheel
What We Like:
o Great customer service
o No modifications needed to the RV
o No drill holes in your RV like would do with some vinyl options
o No sticky mess to take off from some vinyl options or Styrofoam tape
o Doesn’t take much time to install - very first time within a half hour
o Custom Vinyl can be done in a day, but often requires you to go somewhere
o DIY Vinyl can take a couple days
o Styrofoam can take several days
o Transferable to other RVs
o All other options are only good for your current RV
o Holds their value more than other skirting options for resale
o Stores easily
o Compacts into two travel bags (be sure to fold once and roll to fit back in the storage bag)
o Probably similar storage size to the vinyl options
o Much smaller than Styrofoam & you don’t have to number your panels like Styrofoam
What We Don’t Like:
o Expensive, but worth it to us for the benefits mentioned previously
o Similar to custom vinyl
o More than DIY vinyl
o Much more expensive than Styrofoam
o Still have gaps in some places
o Difficult to place around sewer hoses
o Difficult to place around stabilizers
o Not tall enough to insulate our slides
o No option to insulate the front end of the 5th wheel
o Custom pieces for all sizes, but that just costs more money
o Stair pillow, buffer pillow, skylight insulator ($60 each!)
o Deflates with very cold weather
o Did have one blow away in the wind because we had blown it up when it was warm outside, so it deflated in the middle of the night and blew away
o Quality Control
o Did have holes in our first batch
o At least kits come with corner and edge protectors now
Installation Tips:
o Don’t inflate tubes all the way
o Protect corners and edges with corner protectors by Air Skirts / or a towel
o Use tire covers instead of tire wedges that are available from Air Skirts. You don’t get a full seal with the wedges.
o Inflate tubes in the coldest weather or else you won’t have a seal when it gets colder
o Place further under your RV instead of half in and half out – this gave us a better seal
