In this video we talk about the number one thing we are asked about in the RV park: AirSkirts! We go over everything you need to know if you are thinking about purchasing them. We say what we like and don’t like about the system, and we give a few installation tips for those of you who decide that the AirSkirts are right for you.

We chose the Extra-Large kit for High clearance because we have a 45’ fifth wheel

What We Like:
o Great customer service
o No modifications needed to the RV
o No drill holes in your RV like would do with some vinyl options
o No sticky mess to take off from some vinyl options or Styrofoam tape
o Doesn’t take much time to install - very first time within a half hour
o Custom Vinyl can be done in a day, but often requires you to go somewhere
o DIY Vinyl can take a couple days
o Styrofoam can take several days
o Transferable to other RVs
o All other options are only good for your current RV
o Holds their value more than other skirting options for resale
o Stores easily
o Compacts into two travel bags (be sure to fold once and roll to fit back in the storage bag)
o Probably similar storage size to the vinyl options
o Much smaller than Styrofoam & you don’t have to number your panels like Styrofoam

What We Don’t Like:
o Expensive, but worth it to us for the benefits mentioned previously
o Similar to custom vinyl
o More than DIY vinyl
o Much more expensive than Styrofoam
o Still have gaps in some places
o Difficult to place around sewer hoses
o Difficult to place around stabilizers
o Not tall enough to insulate our slides
o No option to insulate the front end of the 5th wheel
o Custom pieces for all sizes, but that just costs more money
o Stair pillow, buffer pillow, skylight insulator ($60 each!)
o Deflates with very cold weather
o Did have one blow away in the wind because we had blown it up when it was warm outside, so it deflated in the middle of the night and blew away
o Quality Control
o Did have holes in our first batch
o At least kits come with corner and edge protectors now

Installation Tips:
o Don’t inflate tubes all the way
o Protect corners and edges with corner protectors by Air Skirts / or a towel
o Use tire covers instead of tire wedges that are available from Air Skirts. You don’t get a full seal with the wedges.
o Inflate tubes in the coldest weather or else you won’t have a seal when it gets colder
o Place further under your RV instead of half in and half out – this gave us a better seal

I have Air Skirts! This is my second winter. I had no issues like you guys did. I'm glad you got your issue solved. Prior to inflating I went over my underbelly with a fine tooth comb. Added pool noodles to edges, foam to corners, and taped down any "pokey's". Used all the plastic edge protectors the Skirts came with. 2nd, in my humble opinion Air Skirts were specifically made for Air Streams. Those that dont have Air Streams have to make adjustments for Air Skirts to fit. So what I did was only fit the Air Skirts where my water pipes and heating ducts run. My entire RV is NOT covered, but the seal the Air Skirts provide has allowed me to not turn on my furnace unless it is 19 degress or less outside! Bunch your skirts as close together as you can get them to eliminate "air gaps". I temp 4 zones. Outside, inside, subfloor, and the space between the AirSkirts. The space between the Air Skirts is 7 degrees higher than the outside air, even though the gauge is outside on the ground. The gaps from the Air Skirts provide air so humidity won't build. The Air Skirts occupies enough space underneath that cold air cannot just breeze in. I tried insulation board one winter and the humidity underneath was always in the 90's. Oh I forgot! I have 4 1 gallon bottles of ammonia with felt wicks, mothballs, and bait stations where there are gaps.

Hi
I have airskirts for my Apex Nano 208bh.
They sounded good but they take CONSTANT maintenance. I consult in the oilfield in the upper Rockies. Often gone from my RV up to 3 weeks. You cannot just inflate them and walk away. They deflate over time and any wind will blow them away. They need inflated every 2-3 days…

Can you provide an update as many of complaints were answered with "should be good" "shouldn't have to ...". Did you have any additional problems or are you indeed good to go?

Very helpful video. I currently have a custom vinyl skirt with adhesive snaps which has stayed on with no issues. But I’m considering AirSkirts for the insulation factor and still putting the vinyl cover over the skirts. But the AirSkirts price has had me holding off cause they really are expensive. Thanks for the honest review.

Did you cover the sharp, metal parts under your rv? stairs, tanks, etc?

I’m not so much concerned about how they look but how well they perform so you were filling up your propane tanks every two days I guess the next question I have is I have a Grand design that supposedly has the Arctic package in it but the videos I’ve seen show a much thicker floor to keep the heat in but yeah they got cheap and didn’t use the stuff they did so I’m really down in them for that but I guess the bigger question is is are you really saving all this money with those skirts in place underneath I noticed your review was two years ago. Are you guys still using those air skirts? Are you saving money, and what is the average temperature going down to?

Hi! Just wondering how the slide outs did since those aren't insulated. I just ordered the air skirts but realized I have 5 slide outs and wonder if Vinyl would be better since the air skirts won't insulate the slides.

I’m considering skirting as I’m going to be in my motor home for a semester in Arkansas. How does it work around the sewer connections? Are you hooked up to full connection or just connect and dump when needed?

Thanks for the review. We are almost set on the airskirt but the one possibility we're contemplating in purchasing these expensive airskirts are Critters. Cats, Racoons, etc, clawing them. Heck maybe that's what happened to yours with all the holes. We have a dog but the cats around kinda scare me away from a $3100.00 Investment. thanks again for the review. It helped....

For the cost of these types of products I'm better off buying more propane to run the furnace. Most I've ever spent on propane for winter $250 at $3.00 a gallon. It would take about 20 years of full time use to break even on the cost of airskirts. I seriously doubt the material will hold up that long.

I bought the AirSkirts and they've been a huge pain. They blow away when it's windy and I've had to connect them together with bungee. There were several tubes that had holes. I also wasn't made them to easily fit in the storage bags. Also, the hose on the pump came off and it won't stay connected. I'm sorry I purchased them.

for the price of this system they should come with everything you need. gaps and all stairs and all. seems like a rip off to me for what you get.

I read all the comments below but How well do they work? Have your propane bills decreased?
