KLM Boeing 747-206B (w/ an Engine Problem)

The #4 engine pours out smoke just as this KLM seven-four is preparing for departure. You can hear through the scanner that the controller quickly asks the Captain if any assistance is needed. The classic then taxis off the active and departs a little later. This aircraft went on to fly for America West.

Ha! I thought I recognized “Christine” - that’s what we called her when America West acquired her from KLM not long after this video was shot. She wasted no time in earning that nickname. At one point we considered creating a game where you’d spin the wheel and guess the “mechanical mystery of the day”.
