Teresa knew very little about her birth parents and had no plans until her nephew was born and she began to think about her own future children.

Teresa realised she knew nothing about her own early years and decided there would be no harm in getting to know where she came from.

However, what she learned led her into two decades of trying to cover up the truth of where she came from.

Speaking as part of Life Stories, Fabulous’ new YouTube series which documents the extraordinary lives of ordinary people, Teresa says: “My childhood was a very happy one.

“I didn't come to my parents until I was 2 and a half going on 3.

“They already had two boys older than me. In those days people weren't really told much about their background to the children they were adopting.

“I think all my parents knew was that I had an Irish mother who was unmarried and had given me up for adoption straight away.”

A friend of mine found out she was adopted. She spent years searching for her birth mother. Only to find she was the product of incest. The shame & disgust almost drove her to suicide. Sometimes not knowing one’s heritage is best. I admire Teresa’s courage to talk about her conception. It must have been very difficult & painful.

Our daughter is adopted, we were told by the social worker that her parents were 1st cousins, did we want her, immediately we said of course, armed with this information we have been able to deal with any health problems she encounters, she now has a beautiful talented daughter herself. My prayers to this beautiful graceful woman it's not too late to find the love you deserve in a partner.

I am NOT a sentimental person, but when she got around to the part when she finally told her parents (her REAL parents), and how they were so loving and accepting, I actually teared up. Poor sweet old lady. I'm so sorry she had to go through all that.

Thank you for sharing. I was raped went I was 12 yo, by my brother and I had a boy. My mom decided to give him for adoption. She took me my live with my aunt.. I always think of my babe. And deep down in my heart. I thought, I’ll look for him. But it was too late . My son die when he was 7 months old. Problem with enlarge heart. I decided not to have kids.

My ex husband was born of incest too. His mom gave birth at 13 years old after being raped by her older brother. Their mom (his grandma) kept the baby and raised him as her own child. He calls her mom (not his biological mom). It was the family secret. It's sad and I always felt bad for him but it never seemed to bother him. He went on to have children without any issues.
