Great video Stripey!. A lot of memories for me this album, I’m 46 and my older brother is 7 years older, he was big into the Pistols, Clash etc, but he also loved Ska and 2 tone including Madness. This is a compilation album he played a lot and I remember it well - great compilation and for me, a classic cover

Complete Madness is one of the wonders of the world. Absolute magnificence. There are longer compilations and some classics from after Complete Madness, but it's a perfect listen and not too long. I got it on tape for my 8th birthday and still have it. It's still kind of playable. A bit wobbly after over 40 years and hundreds of plays.

Cheers Stripey! Another great video.
The kids watched it with me. “We love House of Fun, don’t we dad!”😎

Then we had to listen to CM and the kids now know the start of Baggy Trousers is played on a fire extinguisher.
Also, if you play that Coda at the finish of HOF, backwards, it sounds even more familiar to a traditional fairground sound.

Bought this album with my 10th birthday money from Morrisons. Possibly the best compilation album ever. I used to stare at the inner gatefold sleeve for hours.

Hi mate,
I saw you've posted this video and I thought I had to listen to the album, before I watched your video.
So, I downloaded it and listened to it.
It's all happy music from the beginning to the last song. It gives you a sile every now and then.
I must say I liked it.
Take care.

As always great review Stripey. "Complete Madness" was released in Poland in the 80s when our country was different place than now (the communist regime as you know). This album form me was and introduction into Madness and 2tone when I was a teenager in the 90s, wearing MA-1 jacket, braces and Ben Sherman shirt... years go by, I'm over 40 now and i still love Madness, The Specials, Selecter and all that 2 Tone stuff.

Great vid Stripey! Love the album covers t shirt where did you get it? Had this on vinyl unfortunately I gave it away when I got The Business cd box set. A few of my favourite Madness singles of mine are The Sun And The Rain, Michael Caine and Our House mostly for the beautiful string arrangement. But picking your favourite Nutty Boys single is like picking your favourite of your kids! Impossible in my opinion.

Had the non gatefold version in the mid 80s and had it til 2010 when I moved to Canada, I really missed it even though I had all the songs on CDs. Finally got a Gatefold version a few years ago and it is one of my most played records. Love it. I really enjoy looking at the memorabilia on the gatefold inner.

The inside of the gatefold montage was used again on Bob Marley’s best of album Legend. Dave Robinson who was MD at Stiff had moved across to Island records by 1984 and was put in charge of promoting Marley’s greatest hits album. Dave Robinson being as he is (always sticking to a winning formula) copied the idea from Complete Madness and did a Marley montage, the rest is history.

The single version of House of Fun was also featured on the US LP & CD simply titled "Madness."

The money from this and the video was probably what enabled Mike Barson to walk away from the band at the end of 1983. His work was done.
