According to a friend of a friend of mine who explained it, any objects that are made with the components/materials that mesh with the Augmented Reality world (no pun intended), allow those having the AR sight capability to pass through them. Anyone capable of seeing into the AR world has the ability to interact with it in a way they normally couldn’t in the actual world.

Though he also told me that we are waaaay behind that sort of technology in real life.
