The Rameau Project is the Pierce College Hybrid Ensemble's response to our virtual and distance-learning Fall 2020 season.
The music is a four-part arrangement of "Forêts Paisibles" from Jean-Philippe Rameau's 1735 opera, Les Indes Galantes. Wind and string musicians recorded parts remotely in their home environments. Each variation has been developed by a different percussionist in Hybrid Ensemble informed by various musical genres. This project was inspired by Bintou Dembélé's krump choreography in the 2017 Paris Opera staging of the oeuvre.

This marching battery variation was created by Pierce College student Evan Brentson (using Virtual Drumline). The color guard performer/choreographer is Alyssa Bennett (Wasatch Independent Guard, The Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps, Timpview High School Color Guard Instructor) of Salem, UT.

The Pierce College Hybrid Ensemble is a student instrumental performing group directed by Dr. Kaitlin Bove and comprised of personnel from the Pierce College Concert Band and String Orchestra. Pierce College is a community college located in Puyallup, Washington, USA. Many of our members are completing Associate Degrees in Music.

Sword dancing does remind me of the part of "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" where the slave girl starts dancing with a sword for the purpose of killing the leader of the thieves who is a guest in her master's house.
