I know exactly what you meant of the scenery being overwhelming. I'm from New Jersey and never been out west. I used to be a truck driver. 11 years ago, I was sent all the way out west. I saw all the mountains out there. First I was in shock and extremely happy but then I felt like crying, because it felt like an overload. All of humanity should have the right to experience all of this Earth we call home.

I think in Alaska, might be a good idea to put bear spray on a neck lanyard .. with all the heavy vegetation, I'm surprised you didn't come across one .. ..
