John Lennox on Stephen Hawking

Показать описание
In this video, John Lennox discusses the illogical contradictions in the central argument of the New York Times best seller 'The Grand Design' (by Stephen Hawking). As professor Lennox explains in this video, the general public often mistakes all statements of scientists as being statements of science. Scientists are experts within their specific fields of study, but when they venture outside of their particular domains, their lack of knowledge and understanding of basic logic, can easily become apparent! Anyone choosing to think for himself / herself, should be able to see this. As Dr. Lennox puts it in this video, "what serves to obscure the illogicality of their statements is the fact that the statements are made by scientists. A real danger, is that we can confuse statements of scientists as being statements of science. Not all statements of scientists are statements of science, and therefore they do not posses whatever authority we ascribe to science itself. Immense prestige and authority, DOES NOT compensate for faulty logic." For more information, I would suggest the book 'God And Stephen Hawking - Whose Design Is It Anyway?' John Lennox is especially well known for his debates with world-renowned Atheists such as Richard Dawkins. (The Grand Design was written by Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow, and was released in 2010.)
Despite the fact that the illogical contradictions of Stephen Hawking's central argument (from his book The Grand Design) have been exposed, many Atheists persist in using this argument. Therefore, I think it's important to continue countering it. No undue disrespect is intended to the late Stephen Hawking.
Mr. Lennox's biography and background: "John Lennox is Professor of Mathematics (emeritus) at the University of Oxford and Fellow in Mathematics and the Philosophy of Science at Green Templeton College, Oxford. He is also an Associate Fellow of the Said Business School, Oxford University, and teaches for the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme. In addition, he is an Adjunct Lecturer at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University. He studied at the Royal School Armagh, Northern Ireland and was Exhibitioner and Senior Scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge University from which he took his MA, MMath and PhD. He worked for many years in the Mathematics Institute at the University of Wales in Cardiff which awarded him a DSc for his research. He also holds an MA and DPhil from Oxford University and an MA in Bioethics from the University of Surrey. He was a Senior Alexander Von Humboldt Fellow at the Universities of Würzburg and Freiburg in Germany. He debated Richard Dawkins on 'The God Delusion' in the University of Alabama (2007) and on 'Has Science buried God?' in the Oxford Museum of Natural History (2008). He has also debated Christopher Hitchens on the New Atheism (Edinburgh Festival, 2008) and the question of 'Is God Great?' (Samford University, 2010), as well as Peter Singer on the topic of 'Is there a God?' (Melbourne, 2011). Furthermore, he has participated in public discussions on similar topics with many other academics on campuses around the world."
