Another hint. If you don’t have coffee or don’t like coffee, if you boil the water and pour it over the mix. It intensifies the cocoa flavor.
My father used to put the dry ingredients in a mayonnaise jar and take it with him on his deployments. Then after he baked it, he would immediately put chocolate candy bars on the cake and that was his frosting.
(He was Navy veteran, working in food services.)

I thought I was the only one on the planet who still makes my Mom’s wacky cake! Thank you for this video. Now my kids don’t think I am crazy. My WW2 veteran parents, grandparents, great grandparents and this nation sacrificed so much for our freedoms and we have forgotten this. History is important! God bless you!!

I'm 63 and I was taught this in home ec. We called it Wacky Cake and topped it with powdered sugar.

My momma made this cake my entire life. We called it Wacky Cake. She made a homemade icing also. She got the recipe off the radio when my dad was stationed in Germany. Late 50s or early 60s. Oh the memories ❤

Growing up, we had this all the time, calling it "Busy Day Cake, " served with a squirt of store-bought whipped cream. Now, I'm nearly 80 years old, and it's still my favorite cake.

I used to make this when my children were little and we didn’t have money. I always kept baking ingredients on hand and if we didn’t have anything else we could always have wacky cake. I never tried putting coffee in it. My grandmother gave me the recipe when I was a child. ❤

This has been my husband’s favorite cake for over 50 years. He prefers cake without frosting. I’m going to try making it with the coffee next time

This is the first cake I learned to make as a young mom. It's so good and not too sweet. It's just as good sprinkled with a little powdered sugar.

Thank you for another dairy free cake. My grandson Titus can have zero dairy. Being able to fix him treats like his cousins is a blessing! Stay BLESSED!

I am over 65 and I learned this from my mom, who's family made it also. We never put coffee in it though. We called it Wacky cake. We never topped it with anything and it was so good! When my mom made it, sometimes there was bits of flour where it didn't get mixed well enough. She'd tell us they were the wacky's. lol!

Thanks for showing this recipe. I'm 75. My mom cooked for a small (2 room) school back in the 60s in N. E. Oklahoma. She got this recipe there. She made a white frosting for it and it was so good. I've been looking for this for years now. Thanks again.

My Nana made this cake. I have made it for years. My son has always asked for this cake with peanut butter frosting as his birthday cake. My granddaughter also asks for it as her birthday cake. So simple and tasty.

We called it depression cake in Nebraska growing up. I always thought it was cause chocolate cures depression. It wasn't until I got older that I found out certain items were too expensive during Great Depression. ❤
