Testing MCW Finishes Enamels & Lacquers - Great Replacement For Model Master

Today I test out MCW Finishes. They are offered in either lacquer or enamel.
The lacquers are pre thinned for airbrushing while the enamels can be brushed on or thinned for airbrushing giving you the best of both worlds. Also the enamels can be a great replacement for the now discontinued Model Master paints.

I got back in to model kits after 15 years and I was determined to give it 100%. I am proud to say I've just finished custom painting two full kits and they came out excellent all because of this channel. I've learned so much watching this and it gave me a lot more confidence. This channel has done so much for the modeling community.

Paul from NB Canada. I absolutely LOVE MCW paints. From their primer through both lacquers and enamels. Easily the best paints around now. Been a fan for years.

You know I've come to rely on your videos for budget yet great paint. Plus you even give spectacular info on getting the best result from them. I hope you keep making videos.

The MCW home base is actually my local hobby shop. You are right, Mike is a great guy and really cares about providing a good, accurate paint for projects. I have only used his lacquers and had great success with coverage, flow, etc. Nice to see a small business step in to replace such an important need for the hobby.

MCW is a lifesaver. Due to miscommunication in the Hobby for Decades Testors brand got a bad rep due to ignorance of how enamels are used and applied. Model Master had the best paint on the market for Cars and Military, the quality was top notch, but sales slowed due to ignorance and lack of presentation by Testors. Acrylics took over because of ease of use and much more tutorials on their use.
My LHS just started stocking MCW paints and I was ecstatic to be able to get some easily after seeing "Old Man" Don do a video on these. Great paints and they use the actual mixtures the Auto and Military builders used so these colors are spot on. Thanks to Mike at MCW for a great line and replacement for Model Master colors. Great video

Very impressed with the jars and labelling allowing you to see the colour and paint left in the jar and i think this paint has the best depth of colour of anything you have shown to date. I wish we could get these enamels here in Oz but just having your vid to show how good these look is a great help for when we may see them here. Thanks and keep 'em coming bud.

I had purchased a 1:16 scale 1979 Firebird model because I wanted to have a re[plica of the car I got for my HS graduation gift in 1991. I wanted to make sure it was accurate, and was thinking I would have to find a body shop to get the right color paint, and pay a ridiculous amount for way more automotive paint than I would need. Ran across a post on reddit while researching using actual manufacturers' paint codes for models, and someone mentioned MCW. Quick Google search pointed me to the website, and I went thru the entire site looking for the paint code I needed for the gold '79 firebird, and it wasnt there. Sent an email, and Mike replied quickly and told me, if he doesn't have it, he can make it, and made me up 2 bottles of laquer in the exact paint code I needed. 100% spot on accurate to true color. Also asked him about GM Paint code 70 Flame Red used on '75 Corvettes as I was searching for the true color of the General Lee for another kit I have. Not only did he say that he would make some, but he started carrying it as a regular item in the shop, and even has it labelled as the color for the General on the site. 100% will use MCW whenever I need to re-create an actual car to scale. Thinking about switching to MCW for my scale military aircraft as well.

I'm fairly new to your channel and enjoy the videos you share. Had a feeling you had a MCW vid. Have had a grocery list for some of the items Mike carries for a while now.
If you haven't already, I hope you do a vid on the Paasche line of paints.

Those paint looks great. I usually don't use enamels much since they require so long to dry, but I might have to give these a shot. Absolutely can't wait to see the debut of your paint line...standing by patiently for them

Nice preview. I use MCW almost exclusively on all my nascar race cars. Good luck with that hardener.😀 I use it in all my enamel shoots and found even cleaning rim, the hardener seals jar shut. I transfered mine to a dropper bottle, solved the issue. Can’t say enough about MCW. I learned to airbrush with their lacquers, but I have slowly started using more and more enamels. I use mr. colors leveling thinner as well. I still have tons of model masters that I use it in as well. Thanks!👍👍

So excited to see less known brands being promoted like this. Barb, i have to ask, do you plan to review the WHOLE ENTIRE Tamiya TS series? I’m barely finding any examples of their colors in pictures or videos, so i’m curiouis if you have that in the works! (No pressure to make a vid about it! I was just wondering since I’m starting to move into spray painting.)
