Cerberus is Hades emotional support animal when Persephone is with her mother. He just keeps him as an employee so he can pay him in food, shelter, treats, and belly rubs. Also to write him off as a business expense.

When deciphered the name Cerberus could mean spot and that just makes me smile that the king of the underworld named his dog spot
