Found this on @reddit in the #gpt section.

It's a fascinating thread about a #computer #IT technician who goes to the home of a 92 year old customer to fix her computer. They talk for a while about #technology and #ai and eventually get on the subject of @OpenAI and #chatgpt. The tecnician, who just wants to get back to work, offers her his phone so she can chat with the #llm and leave him alone for a few minutes so he can complete the job.

The elderly lady chats with the #bot and reveals an incredible story of how her dog saved her life.

This #usecase can be seen as an incredibly wholesome and positive use of #aichatbots to help alleviate #loneliness in older adults

OR

it can be seen as an incredibly insensitive use of #conversationalai to avoid human contact.

Which one is it in your opinion?

I think it is depends on who is providing the AI and how private it is and what the AIs mode is. If it is neutral to positive like ChatGPT, the user is aware that it is an LLM and the data is no used for immoral things I think it is OK. Language is important for humans and I think it is probably better to speak a bit more frequently to an AI than not to speak. It is probably not done a lot of research on this, as the tech is so new. Speaking to Siri og Google Assistant in my born language, makes me irritated, but I was able to use ChatGPT to make a story in english, during a two hour drive last Christimas. I think it was quite fun and engaging. As the part of the population that is single is growing, and it also seems to be more and more rare that people have close friends, I do not think this is a use case only for elderly.

I agree a human interaction Would be better but if this makes her happy what's the problem? It's a known fact that elderly Talk Excessively about things. there's a name for it But I can't think of it. so if this makes them happy again why not
