What separates the Jane Austen books the most is the personality of the characters. You can change a lot. You can add scenes. You can take away scenes!you can add fairy tale creatures. You can make it modern. You cannot change the personalities!!

They might have the same character names but this is not Jane Austen's Persuasion.

Pretty sure Anne expresses herself more in this little trailer than she does in the entire novel.

To all period dramas: stop taking Bridgerton as inspiration, especially in the humor. Jane Austen's original language was filled with subtle wit; the jokes here are so painfully obvious and unfunny. Stop modernizing everything. The beauty of Austen lies in the past.

"your hair is also suitably appropriate"

Pah humbug, not for the regency era it isn't.

I swear to God if fans give her hair in this a pass after they never shut the hell up about Billie's hair in Mansfield Park being wrong, I'll scream.

Is THAT hard for period dramas in Netflix and others to keep their historical characters (Specially adults) without the hair down, it wasn't correct, only to sleep. I know they want to modernize everything but then people start to believe that in regency era you could go to the downtown with your hair down and no bonnet at all

Smells a bit like Bridgertons?!?! And Dakota looks too chearfull for Anne Elliot. Sally did it perfect, but I'm giving it a chance. This is my most beloved book...

I couldn’t even get through half of this trailer. Why must you mess with Jane Austen and change her characters? Since persuasion is my absolute favorite I have been longing for a new adaptation For literally years. All you have to do is open up the book and put it on the screen. Miss Austen’s writing and characters are perfection. You don’t know better than she did about her own characters. I read persuasion at least once a year, that woman is no Anne Elliott. 🤦🏾‍♀️

What I wanted: a decent adaptation of my favourite Austen book
What I got: Anne Elliot with a marmalade Hitler moustache

Okay did any Austen fan EVER ask for an adaptation of persuasion with Anne rewritten as feisty? Did the makers of this film mistakenly think 1999 Mansfield Park was a SUCCESS and people actually liked it unironically? Just ugh.

Me before the trailer: oh my gosh I wish they were adapting ALL Austen's books!

Me after: (snort) nevermind

Huh. I was excited for this since it's my favorite Austen novel, but I'm not really excited anymore. I don't necessarily mind that they are making changes, books and movies are so different there should be some changes, but this just If they were going to change the characters that much I think it would have made way more sense to make it a modern adaptation like Clueless. This just feels like they are trying to cash in on Bridgerton popularity.

Anne feels really off in this trailer. She is much more timid in the beginning of the novel.

The tone of this trailer feels REAL different from the book.

The 1995 film starring Amanda Root as Anne is my favorite.

Good heavens. Next thing you know they'll be making a Sense and Sensibility with a spirited Eleanor and a serious Marianne. If they were so against having Anne be Anne they should have just made Northanger Abbey. We are one of the oldest fandoms in existence. Maybe take us a little seriously. I knew this was going to be bad, but goodness. This isn't Persuasion. If Anne Eliot was this spirited she wouldn't have turned down Wentworth in the first place! I will watch it because I watch every adaption. I will be judging it.

Finally, or so I thought. That was disappointing. I don't see the sincerity or gracefulness of Anne Elliot, not to mention the accent. She's too chirpy. Also, why are they trying to infuse this with an "Enola Holmes" kind of video setting/editing. This is not an action film. Jane Austen's Persuasion portrays many emotions like deep longing and resentment. I understand that they are trying to modernize it and make it livelier because the pacing in the book is quite slow, but it just doesn't sit well with the characters and the overall vibe of the book/novel. It would've been great had they made it feel closer to Joe Wright's Pride and Prejudice with a mix of Netflix's version of Emma. This felt more like a spoof.

I'm a huge lover of Austens work, I'm also open to adaptions and little changes, Emma on Netflix for example, but just from the trailer alone this isn't Persuasion. The characters are hugely different, the book is not chipper and funny, it's slow and agonising for Anne as she suffers loss and family bullying etc - they are not friends or flirt, she isn't perky.

I'm all for changes, yes, but this just changes the story. It's just characters and title of a similar name. Sorry guys

It looks like the writers loved Fleabag and Bridgerton...
