Zeus is stronger than superman. A single lightning blast of zeus immediately overpowered the mother boxes whereas it took superman quite some time even with cyborg's help (as minuscule as it is % wise) to do the same.

I think Snyder also confirmed that Steppenwolf fought another doomsday way back in the day and that they were the reason Krypton's moon was destroyed in Man of Steel. This was also a younger Steppenwolf so he should be above Doomsday imo.
