My grandmother used to say "aging is a privilege denied to many." And boy was she right.

I honestly need to see aging normalized. It’s such a taboo. Everything is anti-aging like it’s a horrible crime. I’m 53 and struggle with this concept all the time.

I modeled for years! It still messes me up when I see photos of myself (knowing full well I had a hair stylist, nutritionist, personal trainer, medical grade skincare as well as photoshop and editing) and feeling like I don’t look like that anymore. When in reality I never did!!!!

Remember humans look human once you involve yourself in reality!

I feel sorry for the younger generation. Now everyone thinks they gotta look like a movie star 24/7 😢

I stopped social media around age 25 and with that came the end of most selfies. Now at 30, I have not seen a filter on my face for five years and honestly I never plan on adding a filter. I struggle with very oily and acne prone skin, but I have also learned to love myself more without wearing face makeup. I'm glad that I have been able to "train" myself to accept my natural beauty.

I have had body dysmorphia my whole life. I feel like these filters are giving EVERYONE body dysmorphia and it is awful.

For me the worst filtering is on the "my skincare routine" by Harper's Bizaar. We're supposed to see celebs REAL skin but they slap a filter on and you can tell because they blur it to the heavens, but before I noticed it it made me feel so bad about my skin (specifically Bailee Madison and even Cassandra didn't notice the filter and made her question her skin too)

I was a young woman in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Magazines and catalogs were our tools of self-flagellation. Air brushed was my generation’s “filter”.

Jamie Lee Curtis is a shining example of what aging naturally looks like.
She wear her hair natural and wears makeup or no makeup like we all do.
More women in the public eye need to follow her example.

I think the filters are crazy out of control! I stopped looking at magazines ages ago because it just was causing me to feel bad about myself. I scroll past pictures on FB and IG that I know look fake and just ignore them and try to focus on people who keep it real. Like you keep it real Cassandra, so THANK YOU!! I only post unfiltered pics of myself at 49. I want to be authentic. I want to look good, but be truly myself. Like you say aging is a privilege and so is being perfectly imperfect 😊

I used to do graphic design and the level of filters and photoshop nowadays is astounding.
Thanks for keeping it real.

I took a media literacy class my second year of college way back in 2007 which was before all the crazy, realistic filters were available to the general public on all social media platforms. I think that should be taught in high school when people are much more insecure but also while writing this, high school students today probably know more about filters and photoshop than I do!
But still, everything presented in the media (traditional or otherwise) is fake, filtered, augmented and manipulated to encourage sales of products. Even the old liquor ads with bikini clad women, set the tone that if you buy this liquor, these gorgeous women will appear out of thin air.

As I always say...perfection is overrated. You are a gorgeous human. It is very sad that being human is no longer good enough.

Seeing how amazing JLo (who is my age) looked made me feel terrible (and bitter for not having $$ for all the work) for so long- until I realized that even Getty images (or at least Jlo herself grabbing them) were filtered. I didn't think the paparazzi photos were retouched- but I didn't understand the collaborative, parasitic relationship that stars have with them (Jlo, Taylor, etc, not only tell photogs where to get 'candid' photos, they have APPROVAL of the photos that go to print). It really straddles a line between fantasy- which one is entitled to create- and deceit- creating a world that others accept but that is not real.

I’m really glad, Cassandra Bankson, that you talk about these things. I appreciate that you work to have a healthy balance— you don’t give up on working in aesthetics bc of the toxicity that exists around you, but aim, instead to bring a more authentic, vulnerable, and real version of yourself to that world. It really resonates and I hope you keep doing what you are doing. I know I’m not the only one who receives benefit but rather are one of so many of your be-you-ti-ful butterflies and skintellectuals! Love love love love ya! 💜

There is a reason the Attorney General just put out a statement saying Social Media poses a health risk for teenagers. And it’s not just teens. Unregulated and unsupervised social media can absolutely mess you up, as you put it so nicely in this video.

Wait. Tati uses a filter?? Wow, that’s really deceptive for a makeup artist. No wonder my foundation NEVER looks that good! 🤯

wow the girl using the body slimming filter in the white set is so comforting. we have almost the exact same body and idk why i feel so bad about myself but when i saw the filter remove from her body i was like "she looks perfect!". I should keep that mindset for myself too

I wish every female would listen to your wise and truthful words. It's so important to know the difference between reality and what's thrown at us about the so-called "beautiful people". Nobody is flawless.
