I agree with the tests advice. If you don't regularly test yourself, you'll fool yourself into believing you're learning most of the material when you might be learning only a small fraction. Also, testing itself strengthens your retention and even comprehension of the subject.

I could not find a native speaker to talk to, I tried online, the Japanese cultural center, and in public, I couldn’t get any quality participation. Three years have passed since I stopped. Short of moving to japan, just studying books won’t get it done. Aloha
