M1 MacBook pro for a Designer? 5 months of use.

Hey! My M1 MacBook Pro has been a little bit frustrating lately, so I decided to record this video and share my biggest issues with it if you're considering to buy one. Enjoy! I'm waiting for the 14" MacBook Pro M1 ;-)

Most honest review I have seen soo far.. other reviewers just praise the m1 because of the speed and they don't mention the defects. There's alot more to consider than speed

Issue with bluetooth was fixed with last update. I am not sure about Keychron keyboard but I had to set up bluetooth to allow keyboard to wake up my mac. Maybe it will help, who knows.

My top-of-the-range M1 Air was terrible, the 8GB RAM could not handle MailChimp or Gmail. It would freeze all the time (uses 17GB RAM). A basic mailer that would usually have taken me 1 hour to make now takes up to 3 hours. I returned it and I am looking to upgrade to the M1 Pro with 16GB RAM - the issues that you raised are really making me worried because in SA this machine costs R35, 000. For that money, I could buy a Windows machine that won't let me down.

Does the extra RAM help with Figma when you have lots of artboards etc?

Apple knew it will draw out a lot of power should they push for more ports allowing anyone to use more hubs/cable connection. Been seeing reviews saying that using usb c hubs for a significant amount of time will also have noticeable effect in battery mode. My theory is that M1 is powerful but it doesn't want to give much power to external devices, hence, the reports of failing usb/ssd hubs.

USB displays are very problematic in my case also. Can relate having used USB-c display port on my laptop. This might be related to serial microcontrolers. And it was not a mac, it was win/linux intel 8th gen ultrabook.

9 to 5 Mac has an article from last month on resetting your bluetooth module. Not sure if that helps but have a look. I too have BT issues on my M1 but also on my 2019 Mac Mini so not sure where the culprit is.

I have Macbook Pro M1 since a 2 weeks and I see bluetooth problem with my headphones (JBL). When my macbook logs off then I lost connecting among macbook and headphones and I have to reset my headphones to back connect :P But in general Im very happy to have that macbook :D

I'm getting the feeling you might be experiencing software issues, not necessarily the M1 being the problem. Have you tried reinstalling macOS? Mine's been great since a reinstall, it can work wonders!

I'm planing to buy m1 MacBook pro 8g for designing but after your honest review I'm hesitating, I was saving for long time to replace my MacBook air 2015 it's really slow for adobe, please advise should I go for it or no?

@Malewicz give your advice pls, do you use this Touchbar thing? Or is it completly senseless, because i am choosing between Air and Pro 13 (pro designer with 12 years exp) coming from windows, i dont understand, will it be usefull or useless for me? I am left-handed by the way, so the keyboard and shortcuts are my main, use htem a lot, its like my piano :) but touchpad is something unphysical, that forces you to wathc on it before you tap, its a whole different thing.
Give you thought on this this pls, because i am breaking my head between this two.
I am refusing to buy PRO because of this touchbar... is it even usable? for designers or at all?
