I was stuck in list view too and couldn't remember how to go back to the default view. I searched and searched in the settings, I couldn't find anything because there's no way to set the view mode in there. The discoverability of how to switch between the modes is very very low. Apple's UX failed here again.

Doesn’t work it’s easier to just go into the watch app on the iPhone 📱 type list view or grid view, done ✅ easy change

You can 3D Touch anywhere on the home screen, it doesn’t need to be a blank space

Tried 200 times like you said. Doesn’t work on my series 5 Nike, the apps just dance around. Doesn’t matter if I do it where there are apps or no apps.

When I try to change grid veiw it turns it on where I can delete my apps and not to turn it to grid veiw
