Usually the Bats get hostile when you are too close to them but I used a game trainer for them to not attack me. Only works on PC and you can get banned if you use it online.

O locus ille, beatus quondam, nunc deminuit.
Unfortunately that land once blessed now has diminished.

Nos destinatae matribus, nunc fiunt turpes.
We were destined to become mothers, now become tarnished.

Ploravimus lacrimavimusque,
We lamendted and shed tears,

sed nemo nos consolatur.
but no one consoles us.

Aureum cui irascebaris?
Golden one at whom you were angry?

My first ever encounter made me feel like a sailor falling for a siren because I really thought it was an nock or something just singing nearby, I love how unique all the enemies are in elden ring.

5 years of Latin in high school made my ears perk up as soon as I heard that song. That's legitimately the only time I used Latin ever since I graduated.

I remember thinking "cool, a singing NPC. Can't wait to meet them"
What a surprise I was in for

The most beautiful way of expressing "why God?" I've ever heard.

"Golden one at whom you were angry?" Now we know...

Her tone when she sings “but no one consoles us” is so bitter and tragic. I love the implied story here that we really have to work to find

This is a great example of how Miyazaki insists that there be a sense of "dignity" to the beings in his games. Yes, the beings have a grotesqueness and horror to them, but they often all retain some semblance of dignity about them too. You need that balance to sell the majesty of the world and to make its rot and ruin feel all the more meaningful.

"Golden One, at whom are you angry?" Gives me chills

I like how dude made his character sit down respectfully for the bat lady’s song

That’s the behavior of one who is heavily equipped with maidens

Dude, when I first heard one of these bats, I ran around trying to look for the source of the singing, thinking it was an npc I could talk to. But, I just found a bunch of bats and the singing stopped then I was murdered by said bats. Thinking back on it, it was really unique in the Soulsborne genre of game. You're always taught that anything with a voice is either an important boss or a friendly/hostile npc, usually friendly. So, when you hear human singing you're like "Oh there must be an npc somewhere I can meet." At least, that was what came to my mind first.

I really hate to interrupt their songs. Always leave them alone as much as possible and just enjoy bat granny's beautiful singing

I had no idea that they were singing Latin and it's even better that it translates to something incredibly meaningful in context with the lore.

From Software did such a great job of humanising the enemies and characters in this game. There's a moment in one of the catacombs where a larger enemy essentially laments over his fallen kindred, so much so that he completely ignores you. There are many more moments and details that give you a sense that before the shattering, you would be looking at normal citizens of the lands between, with everything and everyone since becoming corrupted beyond recognition.

You don't need to speak latin to feel the sadness in her voice. Such a beautiful melody and tone.

This area made me feel super immersed, climbing the cliffs with this song in the background and the gorgeous view to my left, fighting these bat human creatures. The boss arena at the end was also absolutely amazing, it’s a shame that a lot of players might miss this part out because they used the lift instead.

I find their songs very entrancing and I feel like that’s what they were going for. I always enjoy hearing them and the Valkyrie’s singing as well. The merchants have really cool instrumental as well

I love how these are both incredibly frustrating enemies who are very satisfying to defeat, and yet beautifully humanized beings who are capable of such loveliness that I feel like an utter bastard for killing them after they aggro me.

One experience for me recently was pretty cool.

I finally reached the Altus Plateau the other day, and I was riding around exploring. I found an abandoned carraige without a chest in the cargo, but behind it was a path of corpses through a little thicket of trees. I followed the trail and saw a Pumpkin Head, sleeping on the cliff. I approached him stealthily with every intention to kill him, but I noticed just how many of those little kangaroo squirrels were surrounding me. They didn't even seem to be running away from me, like they felt safe with the Pumpkin Head there.

Then I felt a little wash of calm over me and decided I'd just sneak around him and take the item and run. He didn't even stand up.

I don't know if the wildlife there are actually made more numerous, or nonafraid, or if the Pumpkin Head really was nonhostile, or if it was just a bunch of coincidences - it was a very memorable and even beautiful experience.

The first one you encounter has it's wings wrapped around itself slitting crosslegged. from afar it looks like a monk(almost like budda) in robes. The Gregorian esque singing really cements that vibe. So much so I assumed it was a non combat npc. ... Was quickly rid of that notion.
