I find it funny how their defense of Madame Web just boils down to: “everyone said it was bad. But we think it’s great. So it’s great.” Like the whole point of marketing movies is to appeal to a large swath of people. If the target demographic of your film (moviegoers) think your movie is trash, then it’s trash.

Venom was good, but that’s because Venom as a character can stand without Spider-Man. Haven’t seen any of its sequels, but the first was good despite no Spider-Man, not because of no Spider-Man

The thing with a lot of the side characters in Spider-Man lore, is that what makes them interesting is their interaction with Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Even in comics not all versions of the side characters stand strong enough alone, to warrant more of them. It mostly comes down to what story line they are in and how much they impact it. Trying for these solo character movies, is like trying to catch lightning in a bottle.
