You are lucky to have started with books and programmes that are relatively sought after. Unfortunately, the vast majority of books have, literally, no value for the small to medium reseller (at least here in the UK and, from what I can see, the US). Even books I received free or that came in joblots from auction with other items can sometimes not be worth selling. The used book market here is dominated by a couple of huge sellers who frequently list their stock (with free postage) at less than I would be charged just for shipping! Such is the power of discounted shipping rates for large accounts. Even so, these sellers operate on the slimmest of margins relying on volume to make their profits.

There are exceptions; university text books keep a decent value although you need to keep an eye on the edition. Rare or limited circulation books can also give a good return although, of course, by their nature they are hard to find!

Hats off to the small to medium size resellers who make a living from books--they obviously love books (and hard work) more than I do. Having specialised in my early days (computers and network equipment as that was where I had expertise) I found it more rewarding, and less risky, to keep a diverse inventory. I sell the occasional book but never have high expectations.

I can so relate to this video. I felt as though I was paying Amazon to buy my books, so I removed them all. Its not Amazon's fault though. Its mine, as a newbie. I should have made better book choices to send in, and watched my pricing. But, like you, I prefer eBay, although I may give Amazon another shot in the future as I get more experienced at selling online.
