I'll Cry Instead- The Beatles (Guitar Cover)

Показать описание
From the 1964 album A Hard Day's Night. Thanks Peter Siegel for lending me this REAL 1967 Gretsch Country Gentleman AND 1966 Gibson J-160e
The Beatles recorded the song on June 1, 1964 at EMI, Studio Two. The backing track consisted of John on his Gibson J-160e acoustic, George on his Gretsch Country Gent, Ringo on drums and Paul on bass. Overdubs included a tambourine by RIngo and John double-tracking his lead vocals
I'm using a real vintage 1967 Gretsch 6122 Gent into my Vox AC30C2x, mic'd up with a Neumann TLM-103 closely centered between the two alnico blue speakers. George would've used his Vox AC-50 amp
My AC-30 settings: Top Boost channel
Vol: 9 o’clock
Treble: 2 o’clock
Bass: 9 o’clock
Tone Cut: 3 o’clock
Master Vol: 10 o’clock
I think George used the neck pickup (up position) on his Gretsch, so I'm doing the same here. George used a pick, despite this song sounding like it's fingerpicked
For John's acoustic guitar, I'm using a 1966 Gibson J-160e! It's all original with a cherry sunburst finish
Some quirks to John and George's playing:
0:03 George alternates between sliding to the low G note, and not sliding
0:30 John plays the D chord hard, syncopated
1:13 John emphasizes the downbeat during the second bridge
1:26 George hits a D note instead of Low G
1:35 George sustains a C note for this final breakdown
1:38 George slides to D, instead of Low G
My Gear:
1967 Gretsch 6122 Country Gent (w/Thomastik Flats)
1966 Gibson J-160e
Vox AC30C2x (Top Boost Channel)
Neumann TLM-103
