I love SCHD. I have gotten out completely of individual stocks. Seeing the way the world is going, I rather have all my eggs in less risky assets such as ETF's. That way I can sleep at night. I converted all my gains (Individual stocks) into cash and then purchased more of SCHD, VOO, QQQ, VNQ. I have finally crossed a goal of mine in SCHD, just crossed the 2750 shares that I aimed for and loving it. It wasn't easy, it was a long process, but little by little you get to Rome. Keep stacking guys!!

As a retiree, a company must yield at least 3% to be considered a dividend stock for me, and needs to have a five year dividend growth rate of 3.5% so that on average, it stays ahead of inflation. Dividends in this portfolio are used as income. So, obviously, MSFT does not fit into this category for me, but I do own it in the "growth" part of my portfolio, and the dividends in this category are reinvested. While SCHD is my largest dividend position, some of the individual stocks I hold are LMT, MO, MAIN, DTE, DTM, and VZ.

It’s best to pick an ETF that has a 3.5-4.0% consistent dividend than individual stocks

McDonald is getting crushed
Starbucks losing appeal
MSFT doesn’t pay that high but has good price increases

SCHD is one such ETF that has a broad range of companies so that if one falters, the managers can adjust the ETF composition

Great info, guys! I love this collaboration! I’ve been watching and researching Realty Income for a while, because other than my primary residence, I do not own any real estate and would love to add this sector to my portfolio! Keep up the great work! 😊

Oh snap, double threat! What a special treat! Thanks G, for putting this awesome information out there! I loaded up with SCHD! 5.5k shares! I'm done for now! I'm down to only 30k out of the $750k to invest I'm waiting for a nice drop before I unload my last few shekels!

Great, solid options as always with clear facts to support them. Bravo.

Everyone should be aware that picking individual stocks introduces uncompensated risk into your portfolio. You are exposed to the idiosyncratic risks of each company, in addition to the risks of just being in the market. When you take these kinds of concentration risks, just know that your risk increases greatly, and thus your dispersion of outcomes is much greater. That means you could do much better than the market or much worse. A probably better behavior for most would be to buy a well diversified fund with many stocks. Even SCHD is a bit concentrated from a risk standpoint (with the top 10 stocks making up 40%). Again, that just means your range of outcomes is broader and you're less likely to get the mean market return. Know what you're doing and how much risk you can handle.

Again thanks Professor G for the Microsoft inclusion. It is definitely a dividend stock though weaker in dividends than most right now. Great company, great future and I like that they are not dependent on China.

I invested in SPYD. It has an expense ratio of .07% and is yielding 4.91%. That compares with .06% expense ratio yielding 3.70%. Both pay quarterly. In my view there is no comparison. SPYD is an index fund but only tracks 80 S&P 500 stocks.
