Lyrics:

I try to discover
A little something to make me sweeter
Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you give me no reason
Why you're making me work so hard

That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me

And if I should falter
Would you open your arms out to me?
We can make love not war
And live at peace with our hearts
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
What religion or reason
Could drive a man to forsake his lover?

Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me

I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you give me no reason
You know you make me work so hard

That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me

This song reminds me of my mother. She loved erasure. Two months ago she passed away from COVID-19. I miss her so I just listen to everything she listened to. I love you mom.

Erasure needs more respect! They are just as important and influential as Depeche Mode, New Order, and Pet Shop Boys. Vince Clarke, especially, needs to be recognized with a special lifetime achievement award for all that he's done for synthpop music and being the founder of Depeche Mode, Yazoo, and Erasure.

It just boggles my mind how two people can sit down, write, then perform such a perfect song like this. Wow!!

Erasure probably one of the most underrated groups of all time. Several people have covered this track but none of them were a patch on this. Erasure are still together and selling out concepts 34 years later! A great British group to be proud of. Andy Bell was probably one of the first popstars to be openly gay and comfortable and he led the way for many others to follow. Erasure thank you for the memories and you continue to make me happy. Love always.

I recently lost my nephew, too young and this was one of his favourite songs and was played at his funeral. God bless his soul xxx.

I'm neither a fan of Erasure nor this genre but this is legitimately one of the best pop songs ever written.

This song so randomly popped into my head here on July 28th 2024. Music when done correctly is so beautiful in its nostalgia and timelessness ☺️

Erasure were brilliant. Their songs sound as fresh today as they did back in 80s. Andy you’re a gem of a vocalist!

It is one of the most beautiful songs of ERASURE, so let's not break anyone's heart. We all need a little respect.

Vince Clarke doesn't get enough credit for his contributions to being vitally instrumental to the monumental breakthrough of 3 different major music acts in the '80s with Depeche Mode, Yazoo and Erasure. He brings success wherever he goes.

Andy Bell's voice is perfect to express the emotion in Vince Clarke's wonderful tunes.

As a 49 year old metalhead, I love to cruise the 80's pop songs I loved in high school and read all the amazing stories of strangers, some sad, some awesome - all stories about what that particular song and era meant to them. Beautiful stuff!
