Thanks! I bought the battery and some T9000 glue off of eBay coming to under $30. Was able to replace the battery in 30 minutes. The most difficult part was getting the case apart without marking up the plastic. I have spudgers, but ended up resorting to a sharp kitchen knife like another commenter suggested. I heated it with a hairdryer for about 30 seconds while rotating it around. It took a few tries but I was able to get open.

This video saved me so much money and frustration. Left earbud had that battery draining issue after the update and it got so bad that it died after 10 minutes playtime. Sony support was no help at all, only citing standard bullshit that it's normal that battery charge may differ between left and right (ya maybe for <10% delta, but not when L is dying while R still has 90%). Ordered the Varta CP1254, used a hair dryer and sharp kitchen knife to pry the ear bud open, used a tweezer (that i was using for my eyebrows) and a sowing needle for unplugging/disentangling stuff. And damn, I was able to listen to music with NC on for hours again. But I did notice that the Varta still has less battery than the original.

Notes 3 weeks after fix: Left earbud not being able to keep up with right earbud anymore...L 20% while R 80%. Will order the Zenipower Z55 now and change it again and see what happens. Firmware is already the latest (2.0.0), so if it's still dying then I'll just give up those buds for good

Notes 3 months after: Left earbud (whose battery I replaced with Varta and thought had the battery drain issue again) actually works fine now, seemed to be a one time thing so I retract my previous statement. But interestingly enough, my right earbud (with the original Zenipower still in them) are now dying. Though not as bad as the original left bud, it's loading extremely slow now, heats up in the case and has a play time of 2-3 hours max while the Varta powered left bud still has like +60 percent left when the right one clocks out. Came back to this video with the update because I'm replacing the battery in my right earbud now.

Great video, saved my buds. You can put the earbud in a water and heat proof plastic bag and then lower the bud and bag into boiling water for a couple minutes to soften the glue instead of a heat gun. Also the contact cleaner isn't needed to remove the battery glue, just use a razor and go really slow so you don't cut the center contact. After that the glue peeled off easily and I was able to use t9000 and just hold the contact down with finger pressure until it dried.

Thank you for this video! I came here from the walkman blog amaizing article on this battery replacement. Their instructions are great but seeing it in video helps a lot!

Excellent video, i've seen a few others but this one was the clearest to follow. I saw a suggestion somewhere about squeezing the sides after you heat it and that really helped get a spudger in there without gouging it all up.

Wow! You have skills sir. That was precise and smooth the way you took it apart and put it back together. If that was me I would’ve broke it prying the buds apart in the beginning. Lol.

Thanks for this.
Replaced my XM4 batteries and found out you dont really need to remove the small ribbon cable. Mine was too stuck so I ended up carefully removing the battery from below the two ribbon cables and central PCB.
Now I can't quite seem to find a perfect glue to hold the two plastic pieces back together! 😂

I'm curious if the battery in the actual wf 1000xm4 case can be removed easily. I looked at a video on the prior model and the battery is aoldered to the board

May I ask what the point of prying that little thing at 2:57 & 7:57 is? It seems necessary but I'm not sure what it is. Thank you!

what type of glue you used to keep the battery glue to the contacts and the buds themselves?

Hi, could i check what is the pincer with the plastic tips you used? The yellow plastic to remove the contact points internally and finally the cleaner in your red spray? Many thanks

the cause of it was the software or faulty batteries? bc if I replace it and it is the software that damaged the batteries, it will happen again.

Is the T900 permanent in case of having to change the battery again?
