This week marks the fourth anniversary of Hagia Sophia's reopening as a mosque in Türkiye. The ancient structure, originally built as a cathedral, later served as a museum before its conversion in 2020. Our correspondent, Obaida Hitto, brings us more on this landmark's significance and its impact on visitors from around the world.

We cannot thank enough the Ottoman Empire for constantly repairing and keeping the Hagia Sophia mosque standing for 600 years. Despite the thousands of mosques destroyed by the Greeks and Bulgarians, Turks protect historical monuments !!!

Beautiful Roman architecture with a lot of Roman and Ottoman history built by the Roman Emperor Justinian 1 who built most of the churches and monasteries in the Roman Empire

I'm Catholic, and I'm absolutely ecstatic that the Santa Sophia has been returned to the purpose for which the great Saint Emperor Justinian built it; a house of prayer for the people of Constantinople! 🙏

Praise be to God and His Mother, and allahu akbar!!!❤

I saw it 40 years ago when it was a museum. Very big inside but not that impressive to see. One can only imagine its Real spender to look at back between the 6th and 11th centuries.

It's great Turkey have preserved it that it's still around today preserving history but extremely sad that the orthodox paintings and mosiacs were removed destroyed as it would be 1000% better experience than it is...didn't see why the need to convert it when there are so many large mosques already in Constantinople/Istanbul.

From all reviews if you want to see what Hagia Sophia should/would of looked like, travel to Belgrade and visit St Sava temple, it looks next level

Hagia Sophia is an Orthodox church that was converted into a mosque. The credit for its magnificence should be given to Byzantine Emperor Justinian the Great rather than the Muslim population.

It is our property and we can do whatever we want. This only concerns the Turks. Just like Ephesus or thousands of other Roman monuments, what is taken with a sword is given with a sword. If anyone wants to try it, come and try it.

May Mother Punish you all who celebrate this. Allah gave you so much you even made Blue Mosque yet you cannot spare one property for Sofia? I am from India and earlier I use to lament of Mosque demolition to build a Hindu Temple. Now looking at the behaviour of you guys, I am happy that Lord Ram’s Temple was made. Jai Shree Ram
