Model 2 VS IM L6: The Battery's Secret. 621 miles, 2.9 seconds 0 to 60, 13 mins charging…
The race to develop high-performance batteries for electric vehicles never ceases.
IM Motors, a Chinese automaker, recently made waves by introducing a new battery for their L6 model, marking it as the world's first production car to employ a solid-state battery.
Meanwhile, Tesla holds its own strategic advantage with the planned integration of an LFP battery cell from CATL into their Model 2.
Model 2 VS IM L6: The Battery's Secret. 621 miles, 2.9 seconds 0 to 60, 13 mins charging. This prompts the question: how does Tesla's battery stack up against the L6's battery? What insights can Tesla glean from this comparison? And, ultimately, will Tesla be able to effectively compete with other manufacturers in the budget car segment upon the Model 2's anticipated release in 2025? Let’s explore that in today’s video.
First thing first, how does the performance of Tesla's battery compare to that of the L6?
Model 2 VS IM L6: The Battery's Secret. 621 miles, 2.9 seconds 0 to 60, 13 mins charging. The battery serves as the backbone of any electric vehicle, driving a relentless quest among automakers worldwide to enhance its performance. With China ranking #4 in global lithium reserves and commanding 62.9% of the lithium battery market, it's a hotbed for battery innovation. Major players like CATL, BYD, and SAIC Motor thrive in this environment. In a landmark announcement at the Geneva Motor Show, IM Motor, a joint venture between SAIC Motor, Alibaba Group, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech, unveiled the L6 equipped with a solid-state battery boasting a CLTC range of 1000 kilometers or 800 kilometers under WLTP standards. This battery also boasts a high energy density of around 400 Watt-hours per kilogram. However, solid-state batteries do have a drawback: they tend to perform poorly in low temperatures. While this issue can be addressed, it often comes at the expense of lowering the battery's energy density.

Hmm CATL condensed battery already achieved 500Wh / kg the IM Motor IM L6 solid state battery only achieved 400wh/ kg.. i expected it to have higher density....

800km is equal to 497 miles. Not 621. Shame on you for not at least double checking your math.
