If you pay attention you can clearly see him put the insulating bushings, aka redheads, into the mc. He then tapes it to ensure the redhead stays in place.

Not an electrician, Im a lineman. When we're an apprentice we're taught to do things in order and use the tool until you dont need it anymore, then start using the next tool until you dont need it anymore etc.. instead of constantly picking up and putting down tools. Really helps when you have to climb a pole and make up a bunch of services under a transformer. Cut all wires to length, then you're done with the cutters. Strip all wires, then you're done with your knife. Make all your connections, then you're done with your ratchet or impact. I couldnt imagine cutting one wire to length, putting down the cutters, picking up the knife, stripping the insulation off the end of the wire, putting down the knife, picking up the ratchet, making the connection in the block, putting down the ratchet, picking up the cutters to cut the 2nd wire to length...

Depending on how many connections the guy needs to twist together, that tool is godsent.

This is the guy that brings his entire truck inside for every job. Owns 17 drills. 3 of them are for stripping, twisting, and nutting your wire.

Use each attachment once and you accomplish the same outcome without wasting so much time. Rotosplit both, staple both, anti short and tape both, secure both, strip everything at once, twist everything at once, wire but everything at once. Ideally you only touch each tool one time and you save so much time and your efficiency is much higher.

Ehh I can see this as a way to work without worsening your carpal tunnel.. some days twisting make ups hurts the wrist.. I personally twist the wires with my Knipex lineman’s and then use the nut twister to get that wire nut on quickly..

I’m no electrician and I use just about anything as a screw driver but if I’m going to be doing this all day I’d use anything to save my hands lol

A lot of guys in the comments are dogging this way of doing it, That’s all fine and dandy. Wait until you get old enough to, god willing. When the pains come from all that twisting & clamping we’ll see who has man hands then.

Anti-short bushings are not required for Type MC cable in accordance with the listing for the product. The termination fittings approved for use with Type MC cables are designed such that the wires will not come in contact with the cut edge of the armor; the throat of the fitting is small enough to prevent contact with the armor. Type MC termination fittings perform the same function for Type MC cable as Type AC terminations plus the anti-short bushing do for Type AC cable.

I can see the purpose of the power tools used to strip and put on wire nuts. For those of us that have arthritis, and or other disabilities. The implementation of tools that aid us in performing our work as disabled people is a good thing. Master Electrician of 35 years.

So many electricians I work with swear that redheads are not necessary and go to the 300's to show MC cable requirements. However the requirement is in chapter 110 where we must follow a manufacturer's instructions for installing a product, and every roll of MC I've worked with comes with redheads.

After wiring just my house, if I could go back and get those bits I would.

this same guy complaining about using tools will be complaining about the doctors bill for carpel tunnel 15 years from now

I wish people would STOP putting tape on the ends of MC cable, it insulates the armor jacket from the connector. All metallic cable armor, metallic raceway etc, is to be electrically bonded to the enclosure where it terminates.

Don't know why complainy guy is complaining. This electrician put that whole box together in less than two minutes

Exactly. I do this for myself now. I started in condos, multi tracks as an apprentice. Our lead would have thrown all that crap out and gave you Klein wire strippers.
