Is solar truly worth it? We invested millions of pesos for our solar setup at the #skypod with the hopes that not only will our home be greener but will also help us save on our electricity bills. In this video we do an electric bill reveal, take a tour of our solar system, and most importantly answer the question "Was it all worth it?"

I have a solar power system set up for a 6.2kWp grid-tied system, and it's really worth it. My electric bill is between 2 to 3 thousand a month from a supposed 15-18k monthly bill. I'm on net metering too. One of the biggest mistakes that I made was when I only opted for grid-tied, and now I am planning to upgrade it to a Hybrid System with a battery. For those of you who are planning to install solar, please do so. It was Slater Young who helped me decide, not only on the installation of the solar power system but also on the construction of our dream home. Thanks, Slater!

I placed the link to our installer in the description box (not affiliated with them but we are happy with their work)

ang ganda ng solar system, this can be a big change for the Philippines if ever maging malawakang project ito ng bansa. maganda at malaking tulong para sa lahat, makakatipid talaga

This is very informative. I hope our government can come up with a program about solar powering Pilipino homes just like Ca. USA. It will really help the nation, most especially Philippines is blessed with sunlight.

Oh wow so its definitely a game changer! It may be costly and expensive at first but in the long run its really helpful and cost efficient

You really have to invest a lot for the set up. I hope it's really worth it. Our government should really consider looking at the benefits of solar power amd focus on using alternative sources of energy to lessen our electricity bills. Thank you Slater Young for sharing and more power!

We also use the hybrid setup with around 8kwh hybrid system and smart batteries. Halos mag zero bill nadin kami even though gumagamit na kami ng dalawang 2.5hp aircon daily at 3 small .5 hp aircon. During night blackout gamit na gamit din si battery 🙂

You deserve it sir...poor Philippines applauds your good fortune.

13:42 Huawei should correct you on this. The batteries in your Huawei product use LFP cells. In short, it has "at least" 10 years of useful or cycle life.

We have a 6kw system JA + Huawei with 30kw Luna battery back up.

(Initially grid-tied lang pero nag hybrid na inverter na kami para minsanang gastos sa labor and stuff, added batteries during a week long power outage a year ago since may konting disposable naman kami)

Our monthly bill is -600 to -1300 pesos a month, with air conditioning 24/7. Hybrid setup, battery is only used during outages. At night we consume the power back from Meralco which was “deposited” during daytime.

Net zero kami and all our appliances are inverter, energy star, LED lighting etc. We produce around 21kw of power a day and consume just 15-17kw.

The most we spent is pay a carpenter 500 pesos to mop our solar panels twice a year.

The battery isn’t used much so projection for lifespan is around 15 - 20 years which is fine with us vs buying a big generator and liters of fuel just to keep our life running smoothly during typhoons and such.

If magpapakabit ka palang, please, might as well pay a bit more for a hybrid inverter kasi for sure gugustuhin nyong magpakabit ng batteries, it’s life changing plus minsanang aberya and gastos nalang.

Iba talaga ang benefits ng solar energy, no? Sana maging accessible ito para sa lahat para makatipid sa kuryente ang lahat

ROI depends on how much energy u use, the sun, efficiency of your panels, inflation and how much the energy company is willing to pay for your energy. Dito sa Australia it takes 10yrs+ to get ROI. Unlike sa pinas na laging may araw and 2 seasons lang. So sulit talaga magpa solar sa pinas.

Another informative and worth-the-time videos, I love how he easily explains a complicated topic and you never get bored until you finish the video. BTW I know you cover engineering related topics but if you can also tackle money growing techniques like time deposit vs regular savings vs Pag-ibig Savings :)

SPS user here for 3 years. Meron lang akong Off-Grid/Double-Throw set-up. 1kW Solar Panels with 5kW-hr LifePo4 battery. Ako na ng design and set up sa lahat, with one helper I hired. So far, total cost I have is around 75KPhp. 60% of the cost comes from the battery. From having an electric bill of 3-4.5K per month, nasa 350-700Php nlang ngayon. Dahil may battery, may kuryente ako kahut brownout.

Just pointing out that what he's doing is a very good investment. Especially, if ikaw mismo gagawa.

Im from singapore, im so envy with those who can install solar panels and make use of sun for free energy in the long run. I stay in public housing, the govt here install solar panels but charge us market rate. There is no way for us to enjoy for those living in public housing here!

a good solar panel setup is really helpful specially if you are in a location where the local electricity cooperative has brownouts regularly.

Thanks for sharing this informative video! It's great to learn more about solar energy. However, I couldn't help but notice at 1:55 there's exposed wiring between the solar arrays. In the US, it's standard practice to enclose PV wires in EMT conduit to comply with building codes and ensure safety. Considering the investment made, it's surprising the contractor overlooked this crucial detail.
