Using the Leading coefficient test to determine the end behavior of a polynomial

Показать описание
👉 Learn how to determine the end behavior of the graph of a polynomial function. To do this we will first need to make sure we have the polynomial in standard form with descending powers. We will then identify the leading terms so that we can identify the leading coefficient and degree of the polynomial.

The end behavior of a polynomial depends on the leading coefficient (the coefficient of the term with the greatest power) and the degree (the exponent of the term with the greatest power) of the polynomial. If the degree is even and the leading coefficient is positive, the graph of the polynomial rises left and rises right. If the degree is even and the leading coefficient is negative, the graph of the polynomial falls left and falls right. If the degree is odd and the leading coefficient is positive, the graph of the polynomial falls left and rises right. If the degree is odd and the leading coefficient is negative, the graph of the polynomial rises left and falls right.

graphing what type of polynomials, a lot of my videos on finding the zeros and multiplicity I graph them but not always. Here is one video I found where I graphed using the multiplicities of the zeros. Hope it helps

Honestly, you are such a talented teacher! I’ve watched multiple videos and used your videos to study for my exams. My professor when he teaches makes it so hard to understand. You have a talent for simplifying things and conveying them in an understandable fashion!

This was extremely helpful! I'm a sophomore taking precalc and am having trouble finding videos so I was very relieved to see you had this! Do you have anything on graphing polynomial functions? If so, could you reply with the link?

Thanks!

haha, funny how youtube can do that to you. All of my videos are organized into playlists so you can quickly find the topic you are looking for. I don't have everything but let me know if you are looking for something you cannot find

my professor spent 30 minutes trying to explain this and no one understood and I think it was because no one knew what the parent form of X^3 function looked like. With that said, thank you for basically starting from the beginning. It helped me understand it so much easier!

So to find the degree, you only need to look at the highest exponent?

Like for example, at 0:13 the highest exponent is 5 so the degree is 5?

Thanks a lot, the x^2 and x^3 method is so cool.
