Did Hungary violate the European Treaty? | DW News

EU member states are evaluating how to respond to trips taken by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to Russia and China and his country's positioning over the EU's role in Ukraine. Orban has described it as a "peace mission" even though none of his EU partners mandated him to do so. The EU's top diplomats are now discussing a suggested boycott of an upcoming informal gathering of foreign affairs ministers, due to take place at the end of next month in Budapest.

Interestingly, now the Foreign Minister of Ukraine is visiting China. Also, many in the US are looking for an end to the Ukraine-Russia war. So what's wrong with talking to leaders involved?

Why are we amazed that this man is trying to protect his own country? He has been elected to do so. Hungary should be, first, for Hungarians and their well being not for foreigners that do not respect Hungarian culture. Also, whenever someone is to the right, he is branded as being ULTRA right but when one is left, one is only left but never, Ultra left. Seems one side to me. Victor Orban has the betterment on his country in mind. Personally I agree with everything he has done, up until the present.

This is ridiculous. At no point did Orban claim to represent the EU at any of those meetings. Furthermore, it is ultimately up to Russia & Ukraine whether to negotiate or not, not the EU.

Ok. PM Orbán is a properly elected representative of NOT THE EU but The sovereign Republic of Hungary and its people. In this capacity where he emphasizes that he WAS NOT negotiating in the representation of the EU and he doesn't have a mandate to represent France, Germany Luxembourg Belgium etc. etc. HE IS UNDER NO OBLIGATION to seek prior permission from Von der Lügerin, Eva Kaili and the likes who he can talk to, when and what he can say or couldn't say. On the other hand... Hungary counting from the Battle of Pressburg 4-7 July 907 AD is a 1117 year old sovereign entity. How old is this EU project exactly? Call me back in a thousand years or so. I think, they can teach you a lesson or two on survival against all odds. In a thousand years (or much sooner) your descendants might be praying five times a day on the call of the muezzin.

To every conserning european: a lot of Hungarians do not support Orbán and his politics. Please be patient, we are actively trying to get rid of him. When we do, the country will act quite the opposite. Just look at how things have changed in Poland!
